Quick answer: For enterprise sales teams, Outreach and Salesloft are the two leading sales engagement platforms; both are quote-only, with Vendr reporting median contracts of $45,600 and $30,740 a year. Salesloft merged with Clari in December 2025 and now sells Clari Forecast and Groove under the Salesloft brand. For published prices, Apollo.io (free plan, paid from $49 per seat a month billed annually) adds a contact database, HubSpot Sales Hub (from $7 per seat a month billed annually) is the natural pick for HubSpot CRM users, and Reply.io, Klenty, Mixmax and Amplemarket cover multichannel outreach for smaller teams. Prices are vendor-published or attributed, checked September 2026.

A sales engagement platform is where reps run their daily outreach: sequences of emails, calls, LinkedIn steps and tasks, with every touch logged to the CRM. The category has consolidated and rebranded fast. Outreach moved to outreach.ai and now calls itself an “AI Agent Platform for Revenue teams.” Clari and Salesloft became one company, taking Groove with them. Data vendors like Apollo and Amplemarket now bundle engagement features into their seats.

This guide explains what sales engagement software does and how it differs from a CRM or a cold email tool, then compares nine platforms on channels, AI features and what they actually cost.

What Is a Sales Engagement Platform?

Sales engagement software automates and tracks the outbound and follow-up work reps do between “new lead” and “meeting booked.” The core features are the same across vendors:

  • Sequences (or cadences): multi-step plans mixing automated emails with call, LinkedIn and manual tasks.
  • A task queue: a daily list of who to call or message next.
  • Calling: a built-in dialer, sometimes with power or parallel dialing.
  • CRM sync: every email, call and outcome written back to Salesforce, HubSpot or Dynamics.
  • Analytics and AI: reply and meeting rates by sequence, plus AI agents that research accounts, draft emails and flag deal risk.

Sales Engagement vs CRM vs Cold Email Tool

These three get confused because their features overlap. The difference is which job each one owns.

CRM Sales engagement platform Cold email tool
Main job System of record for accounts, contacts and deals Running reps’ daily multichannel outreach Sending high-volume cold email from many mailboxes
Channels Logs all channels; limited sending Email, calls, LinkedIn tasks, SMS Email (some add LinkedIn)
Deliverability tooling Minimal Moderate; usually one or a few mailboxes per rep Core: unlimited mailboxes, warmup, inbox rotation
Typical buyer Whole company Sales teams of 5 to 5,000 reps Founders, agencies, SDR teams sending at volume
Examples Salesforce, HubSpot CRM, Close Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo, HubSpot Sales Hub Instantly, Smartlead, lemlist
Pricing Per seat Per seat, often quote-only at enterprise level Flat monthly plans by contacts and volume

Many teams run all three: the CRM as the record, a sales engagement platform for named-account work, and a cold email tool for top-of-funnel volume on separate domains. If volume sending is your main need, start with our best cold email software guide instead.

The 9 Best Sales Engagement Platforms, Reviewed

1. Outreach: best for enterprise teams betting on AI agents

Outreach now lives at outreach.ai and describes itself as an “AI Agent Platform for Revenue teams.” Alongside sequences, its integrated dialer, deal management and forecasting, it sells named agents (research, personalization, deal and meeting prep agents), and on April 27, 2026 it launched Omni, a conversational agent, and Agent Studio for building custom agent workflows.

Pricing: quote-only. Outreach’s pricing page describes “a combination of seat-based pricing and consumption-based pricing powered by AI credits,” with four packages (Amplify Essentials, Core, Plus and Pro) that include 10,000 to 100,000 AI credits. For real-world numbers, Vendr’s Outreach buyer data shows a median of $45,600 a year across 916 purchases, and Outreach’s AWS Marketplace listing prices a 50-seat “Orchestrate” contract at $108,000 for 12 months. See our Outreach pricing guide for the package details.

2. Salesloft: best for engagement plus forecasting

Salesloft is now a much bigger platform than the cadence tool it started as. Clari and Salesloft announced their merger on August 7, 2025 and completed it on December 3, 2025, with Steve Cox as CEO. On September 2, 2026 the combined company moved to one Salesloft brand; Clari Forecast is the only product that kept the Clari name. Salesloft now calls its platform a “Predictive Revenue System” covering cadences, conversation intelligence, deals, forecasting and AI agents. It has been backed by Vista Equity Partners since a December 2021 growth investment at a $2.3 billion valuation.

Pricing: quote-only (“Talk to Sales”). Vendr’s Salesloft data shows a median contract of $30,740 a year, and Vendr estimates $75 to $100 per user a month for its entry tier on annual billing, with 10 to 15 seats as a typical minimum (more in Salesloft pricing). Deciding between the two leaders? Read Outreach vs Salesloft.

3. Apollo.io: best when you need contacts and sequences in one seat

Apollo.io combines a B2B contact database with sequences, a dialer and deal management. The free plan includes 900 credits per seat a year and two sequences. Paid tiers are $49, $79 and $119 per seat a month billed annually, with 30,000 to 72,000 credits per seat a year; the top tier needs at least three seats. A US dialer is included on every tier (calls use credits), with power and parallel dialing as add-ons. Our Apollo.io review covers its data quality and credit maths.

4. HubSpot Sales Hub: best for HubSpot CRM users

HubSpot Sales Hub is the obvious choice if your CRM is HubSpot, because sequences, calling and deals share one database. The free tools cover up to two users. Starter costs $7 per seat a month billed annually ($20 monthly). Professional is $90 per seat a month annually ($100 monthly) plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee, and adds forecasting and higher sending limits. Enterprise starts at $150 per seat with $3,500 onboarding. Paid tiers include HubSpot credits (500 on Starter, 3,000 on Professional, 5,000 on Enterprise) for AI agents such as its Prospecting Agent. Our HubSpot pricing guide breaks down seats and fees across hubs.

5. Reply.io: best budget multichannel platform

Reply.io prices by active contacts instead of seats. Email Volume starts from $59 a month with unlimited mailboxes under fair use. Multichannel starts from $99 per user and includes one LinkedIn account and calls and SMS per user. Add-ons run $69 a month per LinkedIn account and $29 for calls and SMS. Its “Jason” AI SDR plan starts from $500 on an annual commitment; our guide to AI SDR tools compares it with similar agents. CRM integrations include Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Copper and Close.

6. Groove: best only if you already use it

Groove is a Salesforce-native engagement tool that Clari agreed to acquire in August 2023. After the Clari and Salesloft merger, groove.co redirects to Clari, which redirects to salesloft.com. Groove still appears as a login product for existing customers, but it has no standalone site or pricing. New buyers looking at Groove should evaluate Salesloft directly.

7. Mixmax: best for Gmail-first teams

Mixmax works inside Gmail. The free plan allows 50 sequence recipients a month. Inbox Copilot is $29 per user a month billed annually ($34 monthly), Engagement Copilot $49 ($65) with email and multichannel sequences for up to 1,500 recipients a month, and Mixmax Suite $89 ($105) with Dialpad and Gong integrations. A dialer and SMS are add-ons, and Salesforce and HubSpot sync come with every paid plan.

8. Klenty: best value with a parallel dialer

Klenty Starter is $50 a month billed annually for the account, including 15,000 contacts and 75,000 emails a month. Growth is $70 per user a month (annual) with calling, SMS and LinkedIn steps plus 200 calling minutes; Plus is $99 per user with 1,000 minutes and AI call coaching. A parallel and power dialer add-on costs $45 per user a month. It integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Zoho and Dynamics, and the 14-day trial needs no card.

9. Amplemarket: best all-in-one with AI and data

Amplemarket bundles contact data, multichannel sequences, an outbound dialer, LinkedIn automation and its “Duo” AI copilot. Startup costs $600 a month on an annual term with two users included; Growth (four users) and Elite (ten users) are custom-priced. Each tier includes email credits and several mailboxes per user. Teams comparing Amplemarket with Outreach are usually weighing built-in data and AI against Outreach’s enterprise depth.

What Is the Best Sales Engagement Platform?

  • Enterprise sales orgs (50+ reps, Salesforce): Outreach or Salesloft. Pick Salesloft if forecasting matters; pick Outreach if you want its agent tooling.
  • Startups and SMBs that need data: Apollo.io, or Amplemarket if budget allows.
  • HubSpot shops: HubSpot Sales Hub.
  • Budget multichannel: Reply.io or Klenty.
  • Gmail-first teams: Mixmax.

Calling-heavy teams should pair any of these with a dedicated dialer; see our best power dialer software guide. For LinkedIn steps, read our guide to LinkedIn automation tools, including what LinkedIn’s rules say about automating them. For call recording and forecasting, see best conversation intelligence software.

Sales Engagement vs Sales Enablement

Buyers often compare Highspot with Outreach, but they do different jobs. Sales enablement platforms like Highspot (now part of Seismic) manage sales content, training and coaching. Sales engagement platforms run the outreach itself. Large teams often buy one of each and connect them so reps can pull approved content into sequences. See our best sales enablement software guide for that side.

How Much Does Sales Engagement Software Cost?

  • Free tiers: Apollo.io, HubSpot (2 users) and Mixmax.
  • Self-serve paid: roughly $7 to $119 per seat a month on annual billing across HubSpot Starter, Apollo, Mixmax and Klenty.
  • Enterprise: quote-only. Vendr’s median contracts are $45,600 a year for Outreach and $30,740 for Salesloft; both usually need annual contracts, and onboarding fees are common.

Vendr figures are buyer-reported transaction data, not vendor list prices.

How to Choose a Sales Engagement Platform

  1. Start from your CRM. Check the depth of two-way sync with Salesforce, HubSpot or Dynamics: activity logging, field updates and ownership rules.
  2. List your channels. If calling is central, compare built-in dialers against pairing with a dedicated one. If LinkedIn matters, check whether steps are tasks or automated.
  3. Decide where contacts come from. Apollo and Amplemarket include data; Outreach and Salesloft expect you to bring it.
  4. Price AI separately. Outreach meters AI credits, HubSpot uses HubSpot credits, and several vendors sell AI SDRs as separate plans.
  5. Negotiate enterprise contracts on data. Use public benchmarks like Vendr’s medians, and ask about onboarding fees, seat minimums and renewal terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best sales engagement platform?

For enterprise teams, Outreach or Salesloft. For teams that also need contact data at a published price, Apollo.io. For companies already on HubSpot CRM, HubSpot Sales Hub.

Is a sales engagement platform the same as a CRM?

No. A CRM stores accounts, contacts and deals. A sales engagement platform runs the outreach (sequences, calls, tasks) and writes the activity back to the CRM. HubSpot and Close blur the line by offering both.

Did Clari buy Salesloft?

They merged. The deal was announced on August 7, 2025 and completed on December 3, 2025, with Steve Cox as CEO of the combined company. The combined company has used the Salesloft brand since September 2, 2026.

How much does Outreach cost?

Outreach doesn’t publish prices; it charges per seat plus AI credits. Vendr’s buyer data shows a median of $45,600 a year, and its AWS Marketplace listing prices 50 seats at $108,000 for 12 months.

Is there a free sales engagement platform?

Yes: Apollo.io’s free plan includes two sequences and 900 credits per seat a year, HubSpot’s free tools cover two users, and Mixmax’s free plan allows 50 sequence recipients a month.

What happened to Groove?

Clari agreed to acquire Groove in August 2023, and Clari then merged with Salesloft. groove.co now redirects to salesloft.com; Groove remains available to existing customers but is no longer sold as a separate brand.

What is the 2-2-2 rule in sales?

It’s usually described as a follow-up habit, not a software feature: check in 2 days, 2 weeks and 2 months after a sale or meeting. Most sales engagement platforms can schedule it as a sequence of timed tasks.
