Quick answer: For B2B contact enrichment, a waterfall tool that queries many providers in turn finds more than any single database. Clay is the most flexible (150+ data partners, from $167 a month billed annually). FullEnrich and BetterContact are simpler pay-per-result waterfalls (about $0.05 per email, 10 credits per mobile). Apollo includes waterfall enrichment in plans from $49 per seat a month billed annually. If you run HubSpot, its built-in data enrichment (formerly Clearbit) uses no credits. Cognism and ZoomInfo suit CRM-wide enrichment on annual contracts. Prices checked September 2026.
Data enrichment fills in the blanks on records you already have. You start with a name and company, an email address or just a domain, and the tool adds what’s missing: work email, mobile number, job title, seniority, company size, industry, revenue, technology stack, LinkedIn URL. Done well, it keeps your CRM usable for routing, scoring and outreach. Done badly, it burns credits on data that bounces.
This guide covers B2B contact and company enrichment for sales and marketing teams. It explains waterfall enrichment, compares 11 tools on what an email and a mobile number actually cost, and shows which tools suit CSV jobs, APIs and automatic CRM enrichment.

Vendor-published, checked September 2026. Per-email dollar figures are our division of list price by credits at the entry tier. Enrich.so’s pricing page returned a security checkpoint on every attempt, so we don’t quote its prices; our Enrich.so review explains its credit model.
What Is Data Enrichment? (With an Example)
Say a lead fills in a demo form with just “[email protected]”. Enrichment turns that into a full record: Jane Smith, VP of Finance, Acme Inc., 450 employees, manufacturing, US, uses NetSuite and Salesforce, LinkedIn URL, direct dial. Your CRM can now route her to the right rep, score her against your ideal customer profile and trigger the right sequence, without asking her 10 form questions.
There are two kinds:
- Company (firmographic) enrichment from a domain: industry, size, revenue, location, technology, funding. HubSpot’s built-in enrichment and Clearbit’s legacy product focus here.
- Contact enrichment from a name and company or a LinkedIn URL: work email, mobile, title, seniority. This is where waterfall tools and B2B databases compete, and where most of the cost sits.
What Is Waterfall Enrichment?
No single data provider has everyone. BetterContact puts it bluntly: “On average, a single data source finds only 30 to 60% of emails or mobile numbers.” Waterfall enrichment chains providers together. Clay’s own definition: “You line several data providers up in a fixed order, send a record to the first one, and check whether it returns a confident result. If it does, you stop and keep that value. If it does not, the record falls through to the second provider, then the third, until something lands or the chain runs out.”
Two details decide what a waterfall costs you:
- Does it stop at the first result? Clay and FullEnrich stop at the first confident or verified match and charge only for the provider that returned data. Apollo’s knowledge base says its waterfall “does not stop at the first result returned” when you require a validated result, and that more than one source, plus an optional validator, can each charge credits on the same contact.
- Is the result verified? A waterfall that accepts the first unverified email just moves the bounce problem downstream. FullEnrich says it only charges “when a verified email or phone number is actually found”; BetterContact verifies emails with Bouncer before charging.
Vendor-claimed provider counts: Clay 150+ data partners (more than 100 for work email), FullEnrich 20+ (25+ on its pricing page), BetterContact 20+, Apollo 20+. Dropcontact takes the opposite position, arguing its own algorithms beat a waterfall, and Anymail Finder’s 2026 benchmark found FullEnrich’s waterfall had the highest coverage of the tools it tested, at 87.1% (a vendor-run test; see our email finder guide for its caveats).
The Best Data Enrichment Tools in 2026
1. Clay: best for custom enrichment workflows
Clay is a spreadsheet-style workspace where each column can call a data provider, an AI research step or an API. Its waterfall templates cascade through providers such as Prospeo, Dropcontact, Datagma, Hunter, People Data Labs, Apollo, Lusha and Snov. You aren’t charged data credits when an enrichment returns nothing, and you can bring your own provider API keys to skip Clay’s data credits. Our Clay review shows how fast credits go in practice, and our Clay pricing guide breaks down actions and data credits.
- Pricing: Free (100 data credits, 500 actions a month; no phone enrichment). Launch $167 a month billed annually or $185 monthly (2,500 data credits, 15,000 actions a month). Growth $446 annually or $495 monthly (6,000 data credits, 40,000 actions), which adds CRM sync, HTTP API and webhooks. Data credits start at $0.05.
- Best for: RevOps and GTM engineers who want to design the logic themselves.
2. FullEnrich: best simple waterfall for email and mobile
FullEnrich sends each contact through 20+ providers until it finds a verified match, and charges only when it does. It claims an “80%+ find rate” and “<1% bounce rate” (vendor claims) and says it verifies 80% of catch-all addresses.
- Pricing: 50 free credits. The Pro slider starts at 1,000 credits a month at $0.055 per credit; 15,000 credits a month is $720. Work email 1 credit, mobile 10, personal email 3. Unlimited users and credit rollover.
- Watch out for: automatic enrichment inside HubSpot was marked “Soon” when we checked; today it’s CSV, API and push to HubSpot.
3. Apollo.io: best if you also prospect and sequence
Apollo checks its own database of 240M+ contacts first, then runs waterfall enrichment across 20+ partners, which became the default on paid plans in December 2025. It enriches CSVs, CRM records, API calls, web forms and job changes. Beta customers saw “45% lower email bounce rate” and “7% more phone numbers”, per Apollo’s product page (based on two months of beta usage data). More in our Apollo.io review.
- Pricing: Free includes CRM enrichment up to 100 a month; Basic $49, Professional $79, Organization $119 per seat a month billed annually. Email 1 credit, phone 8. Via the API, Apollo says a waterfall email typically uses 1 to 4 credits and a phone 8 to 25. See our Apollo pricing guide.
4. BetterContact: best budget waterfall for mobiles
BetterContact runs a waterfall across 20+ email and phone providers, verifies emails with Bouncer and phones with its own checks, and on Pro scores mobiles so “You only pay for the P1s”, the numbers most likely to connect.
- Pricing: Starter $15 a month (200 credits: 200 emails or 20 mobiles); Pro $49 (1,000 credits); Enterprise from $799. Credits charged only when valid data is found; rollover up to 2x.
5. Prospeo: best single-source enrichment API
Prospeo enriches from its own verified database (300M+ records after its five-step verification) and charges nothing when no email is found. It’s also one of the providers inside Clay’s waterfalls. See our Prospeo review.
- Pricing: Free 100 credits a month; Starter $49 per user monthly or $37 annually (2,000 credits); Growth $99 or $74 adds HubSpot and Salesforce sync and automatic enrichment. Email 1 credit, mobile 10.
6. HubSpot data enrichment (formerly Clearbit): best for HubSpot users
After buying Clearbit, HubSpot folded it into Breeze Intelligence and now simply calls it data enrichment. It’s included in paid HubSpot hubs from Starter up and, per HubSpot, “does not consume HubSpot Credits”. It fills company fields (revenue, industry, employee range, address) and contact fields (role, employer, location, social links), shortens forms by hiding fields it can fill, and can run automatically.
- Watch out for: no email or phone finding, and HubSpot says limited business contact data from enrichment may be contributed back to its commercial dataset. EU teams should review that.
7. Enrich.so: best for developers who want enrichment as an API
Enrich.so offers email finding, validation, phone and reverse-email lookups as API endpoints with batch and webhook support. Its site blocked our checks, so we can’t confirm current prices; our Enrich.so review covers how its credits and waterfall search work.
8. Lusha: best for reps enriching from LinkedIn and the CRM
Lusha’s extension enriches contacts as reps browse LinkedIn, Gmail or their CRM, and Pro adds CSV and API enrichment. An email costs 1 credit and a phone 5, the cheapest phone rate among single-source tools here.
- Pricing: Free 40 credits a month; Starter $37.45 a month billed yearly (4,800 credits a year); Pro from $52.45 billed yearly. Details in our Lusha pricing guide.
9. Cognism CRM Enrichment: best for keeping European CRM data fresh
Cognism’s CRM Enrichment (previously Enhance) keeps records updated and only re-spends a credit when key details such as a job change occur. It claims “95% of senior contacts refreshed every 30 days” and scrubs against 15 Do Not Call lists.
- Pricing: from $12,000 a year, “priced by usage”; 1 credit per revealed contact.
10. ZoomInfo: best for enterprise CRM hygiene
ZoomInfo’s Operations and CRM enrichment products enrich on record creation, on a schedule or in bulk, with emails, direct dials, mobiles, titles, hierarchies and technographics, and apply “300+ firmographic, technographic, and intent attributes” for scoring. Pricing is quote-only. See ZoomInfo alternatives if the contract is out of reach.
11. Dropcontact: best GDPR-first enrichment
Dropcontact doesn’t store a contact database. It generates and validates emails with its own algorithms on EU servers, and cleans names, companies and websites along the way. CRM enrichment for HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive is a separate subscription from its email finder.
- Pricing: EUR only: Starter €79 a month, Growth €120; 50 free credits; pay on success.
What Are the Best Data Enrichment Tools for Salesforce?
For native Salesforce enrichment, look at ZoomInfo, Cognism, Apollo (CRM enrichment from Basic), Prospeo (Salesforce sync from Growth) and Dropcontact’s CRM suite. Clay syncs to CRMs from its Growth plan. HubSpot’s built-in enrichment only works inside HubSpot. Always check whether a tool overwrites existing fields or only fills blanks, and test on a copy of your data first.
What 1,000 Enriched Contacts Cost
Using list prices, for 1,000 contacts that each need a work email:
- FullEnrich: 1,000 credits, about $55, paid only for found emails.
- Prospeo Starter: within the 2,000 monthly credits of the $37 annual plan.
- Apollo Basic: within one seat’s 2,500 monthly credits ($49 a month billed annually).
- BetterContact Pro: within the $49 plan’s 1,000 credits.
Add mobiles and costs jump: 1,000 mobiles is 10,000 credits on FullEnrich, BetterContact or Prospeo, 8,000 on Apollo (more through its waterfall), and 5,000 on Lusha. Because most tools charge only on success, a higher find rate can make a pricier tool cheaper per usable record.
How to Choose a Data Enrichment Tool
- Decide what you’re enriching. Company fields only: HubSpot’s built-in enrichment may be enough. Emails and mobiles: you need a contact tool or waterfall.
- Waterfall or single source. Waterfalls find more; single sources are simpler and often cheaper per lookup. Check whether the waterfall stops at the first verified result.
- Pick the mode. One-off CSV jobs, an API in your product, or automatic CRM enrichment on every new record.
- Test on your own data. Run 200 records through two tools and compare find rate, bounce rate and cost per usable record.
- Check compliance. For EU contacts, prefer tools with clear GDPR processing terms (Dropcontact, Cognism, FullEnrich and Clay all display GDPR commitments).
If you’re building lists from scratch, start with a B2B data provider; then keep them clean with an email verification tool.
