Quick answer: On list price, DeBounce ($25 for 10,000 checks) and MillionVerifier ($39 for 10,000, with catch-all and unknown results free) are the cheapest ways to clean a list. Bouncer and Emailable ($60 for 10,000) add stronger guarantees and toxicity or enrichment extras. ZeroBounce and NeverBounce cost more but bundle scoring, integrations and deliverability tools. Hunter makes sense if you already use it to find emails. Prices are vendor-published, checked September 2026, pay-as-you-go in USD.

Email verification tools check whether an address can receive mail before you send to it. Every vendor claims 98% or 99% accuracy, and the head-to-head tests you find online disagree wildly: one vendor’s test puts every tool between 31% and 70% accurate, while another reports 96% to 99.9% for the same tools. The difference is almost entirely in how each test treats “catch-all” and “unknown” results.

So this guide focuses on what you can check: price per 1,000 and 10,000 verifications, whether you pay for catch-all and unknown results, what the guarantee actually covers, and the API limits. We did not run our own send test; every number below is vendor-published or attributed to the test that published it.

Email Verification Tools Compared: Price per 1,000 and 10,000

Tool 1,000 checks 10,000 checks 100,000 checks Free credits Pay for catch-all? Pay for unknown? Credits expire?
DeBounce Min 5,000 for $15 $25 ($2.50/1k) $135 100 Yes (1 credit); deep catch-all check 10 credits Not stated Never
MillionVerifier Min 10,000 $39 ($3.90/1k) $149 100 No No Never
Bouncer $8 $60 ($6.00/1k) $400 100 Yes (1 credit) No Never
Emailable Min 5,000 for $38 $60 ($6.00/1k) $420 250 Yes (1 credit) No (refunded) Never
Kickbox $10 $70 ($7.00/1k) $500 100 Yes (“risky” result) No (refunded) Not stated
NeverBounce $8 $80 ($0.008 each, per NeverBounce) Not shown 10 Not stated Not stated 12 months after purchase
ZeroBounce Min 2,000 for $39 $129 ($12.90/1k) Not shown on page 100 a month (business domain) Yes; AI scoring +1 credit No Never with a ONE subscription
Clearout Starter 3,000/mo Pro 10K: $32/mo billed annually ($40 list) Plan tiers 100 (lifetime) Yes (1 credit) No Never; rollover
Hunter No pay-as-you-go; 0.5 credit per check inside plans from $34/mo billed annually (2,000 credits = 4,000 checks) 50 credits/mo 0.5 credit No Plan allowance

Vendor-published, checked September 2026. Per-1k figures are our division of the package price. ZeroBounce’s 2,000 and 10,000 prices come from its pricing page; NeverBounce’s 10,000 figure uses the $0.008 per email rate NeverBounce publishes for lists up to 10,000. Kickbox was showing a promotional discount code when we checked; the table uses list prices.

How Email Verification Works

A verifier runs each address through a sequence of checks, cheapest first:

  1. Syntax and typo checks catch malformed addresses and common misspellings such as gmial.com.
  2. Domain and MX checks confirm the domain exists and has a mail server.
  3. Risk lists flag disposable addresses, role accounts (info@, sales@) and known spam traps or complainers. Bouncer calls this a “Toxicity Check”; ZeroBounce returns statuses such as spamtrap, abuse and do_not_mail.
  4. SMTP mailbox check. The verifier opens a conversation with the mail server and asks whether the specific mailbox exists, then disconnects before sending anything.

The result is usually one of four statuses: valid (deliverable), invalid (will bounce), catch-all (accept-all, can’t be confirmed) and unknown (the server didn’t answer in time or blocked the check).

Catch-All Emails: Where Verifiers Really Differ

A catch-all domain accepts mail for any address, so the SMTP check always says yes. The verifier can’t tell a real mailbox from a made-up one. How a tool handles these addresses decides both your bounce rate and your bill.

  • Free: MillionVerifier says “you only pay for good and bad emails and not for risky (unknown and catch-all) emails” and includes advanced catch-all verification at no extra cost.
  • Charged as a normal check: Clearout, Bouncer, Emailable and Kickbox charge one credit for a catch-all result. Bouncer advertises “Deep Verification of Catch-All” for Google- and Microsoft-hosted domains.
  • Paid resolution: DeBounce sells a catch-all validation step at 10 credits per address. ZeroBounce charges 1 extra credit for AI scoring, which it recommends for catch-alls.
  • Labelled only: NeverBounce returns an “Accept all (Unverifiable)” code and notes that “catch-alls bounce at about half your list’s invalid rate.”

If a large share of your list sits on catch-all domains (common in B2B), a tool that resolves them can recover sendable contacts; a tool that only labels them leaves you to decide whether to risk them.

What the Published Tests Actually Show

The top result on Google for this topic is a Reddit thread describing a 10,000-email test across six verifiers. We couldn’t access the thread to check its method, so we don’t quote its numbers. Here are the tests we could read, with who ran them:

Test Run by Method Result
Hunter, Nov 2025 Hunter (a tested vendor; it says its ground truth “may have given Hunter an edge”) About 3,000 emails of known status across 15 verifiers; unknown and accept-all results count as wrong Hunter 70.0%, Clearout 68.4%, Kickbox 67.5%, Bouncer 65.4%, NeverBounce 63.2%, ZeroBounce 60.7%, Emailable 59.9%, DeBounce 59.6%
Warmup Inbox, Nov 2025 A warmup-tool vendor Same 10,000-contact list across platforms; ground truth not described Bouncer 98.9%, ZeroBounce 98.8%, Emailable 98.7%, NeverBounce 98.6%, Kickbox 98.4%, Clearout 98.1%, MillionVerifier 97.9%

Same tools, very different numbers. Hunter’s strict scoring punishes every “unknown” and “catch-all” as an error, so it really measures how decisive each tool is. The high-90s tests measure something closer to “of the addresses marked valid, how many were valid”. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions. The consistent pattern is that Bouncer, Kickbox and Clearout rank in the upper half of both.

To test for yourself, the approach behind that Reddit-style test is sound: run the same list through three tools, compare how many addresses each marks valid, invalid, catch-all and unknown, then send to a sample of each bucket and count hard bounces.

ZeroBounce vs NeverBounce: Which Is Better?

This is the most searched pairing in the category, and they suit different buyers.

ZeroBounce NeverBounce
Owner No parent company named on its site ZoomInfo
Pay-as-you-go From $39 for 2,000; $129 for 10,000 $8 per 1,000; $0.008 per email up to 10,000
Subscription ZeroBounce ONE $99/mo: 10,000 validations plus finder, inbox tests, blacklist monitoring and warmup Growth $49/mo for up to 10,000
Free credits 100 a month with a business domain 10
Catch-all Separate status; AI scoring for 1 extra credit Labelled “Accept all (Unverifiable)”
Guarantee Claims “guaranteed 99.6% accuracy”; no refund process described Bounces capped at 3% or it refunds the difference (list cleaned within 72 hours; valid, non-freemail addresses only)
Credit expiry Never, with an active ONE subscription 12 months after purchase

Verdict: NeverBounce is cheaper at small and medium volumes and has the clearer written guarantee; its $49 Growth plan is good value if you verify up to 10,000 addresses every month. ZeroBounce costs more per check but bundles scoring, an email finder and deliverability tools, which suits marketing teams that want one account for list health. In Hunter’s test NeverBounce scored 63.2% and ZeroBounce 60.7%; in Warmup Inbox’s, 98.6% and 98.8%. That is too close to decide on accuracy alone. The Best Email Verification Tools in 2026

1. Bouncer: best balance of price, accuracy and guarantee

Bouncer is credits only, with no monthly plan to manage, and its credits never expire. It says only 2% of emails are ever marked unknown and refunds you for contacts it marked deliverable that bounce within 72 hours. Extras include a Toxicity Check for breached, complainer and possible spam-trap addresses, plus a separate Deliverability Kit from $25 a month.

  • Price: $8 for 1,000; $60 for 10,000; $400 for 100,000. 100 free credits.
  • API: 1,000 real-time requests a minute; batch 200 a minute.

2. MillionVerifier: best for large, cheap list cleaning

MillionVerifier is built for volume. It doesn’t charge for catch-all or unknown results and refunds your last payment if your hard-bounce rate after verification exceeds 4%. Its homepage headline is “1 Million verifications for $449.”

  • Price: minimum $39 for 10,000; $149 for 100,000. 100 free credits; credits never expire.
  • Watch out for: fewer extras than Bouncer or ZeroBounce, and API rate limits aren’t published.

3. DeBounce: lowest list price

DeBounce has the lowest per-check prices we found: $25 for 10,000 and $750 for a million. Its guarantee promises 97.5% deliverability, with extra credits if you miss it and a full refund above 8% bounces.

  • Price: minimum 5,000 for $15; $135 for 100,000. Catch-all validation is a separate step at 10 credits per address.
  • API: up to 5 concurrent calls; one bulk job at a time per account.

4. Emailable: best for marketing teams

Emailable pairs verification with inbox placement reports and blacklist monitors, and refunds duplicates and unknown results. Its guarantee covers 99% deliverability on most addresses and 97% on Microsoft-hosted ones.

  • Price: minimum 5,000 for $38; $60 for 10,000; $420 for 100,000. A monthly credits subscription saves 15%. 250 free credits.
  • API: 25 single verifications a second; batches up to 50,000 emails.

5. Kickbox: best developer API

Kickbox, part of the Ziff Davis group, returns a Sendex quality score with each result and refunds any check it can’t answer definitively. Its API allows 25 parallel requests per IP and 8,000 requests a minute, and a sandbox mode that doesn’t use credits.

  • Price: $5 for 500; $10 for 1,000; $70 for 10,000; $500 for 100,000. 100 free checks.

6. NeverBounce: best written bounce guarantee

NeverBounce, owned by ZoomInfo, guarantees that no more than 3% of verified-valid addresses will bounce and refunds the difference if they do (conditions apply, see above). Its Growth plan folds in automatic CRM cleaning.

  • Price: $8 per 1,000 pay-as-you-go; Growth $49 a month for up to 10,000. Credits expire 12 months after purchase.

7. ZeroBounce: best all-in-one deliverability suite

ZeroBounce’s ONE subscription ($99 a month) includes 10,000 validations, 10,000 finder credits, inbox tests, blacklist monitors and warmup seeds. It lists 95 integrations and never charges for unknown results.

  • Price: pay-as-you-go from $39 for 2,000; $129 for 10,000. 100 free validations a month with a business email. Single-email API calls are not rate-limited, per its docs.

8. Clearout: best for bulk jobs and forms

Clearout sells monthly and annual plans with rollover and never-expiring credits, plus Form Guard for sign-up forms. It guarantees a bounce rate under 3% for addresses it marks “Guaranteed Deliverable”, if you send within 24 hours.

  • Price: Pro 10K is $32 a month billed annually ($40 list) for 10,000 credits a month; Starter covers 3,000 a month. Its pricing guide says pay-as-you-go is closed to new users.
  • Limits: files up to 1 million emails; API from 25 requests a minute on Starter.

9. Hunter: best if you already find emails with Hunter

Hunter’s verifier is part of its finder plans, at 0.5 credit per check, and it doesn’t charge when a result comes back unknown. It says it can verify accept-all addresses at “several major email providers”. It isn’t the cheapest pure verifier, but there’s no second tool to manage. See our guide to email finder tools for the finder side.

API Limits at a Glance

What Is a Good Free Email Verification Tool?

For small checks, Emailable (250 free credits), ZeroBounce (100 a month with a business domain), Clearout (100 lifetime), Bouncer, Kickbox, MillionVerifier and DeBounce (100 each) all let you test without paying. Hunter’s free plan covers 100 verifications a month. None of these is enough for a real campaign list, but they are ideal for comparing tools on the same 100 addresses before you buy.

How to Choose an Email Verification Tool

  • Price the whole list, not the headline. Minimum purchases range from 500 checks (Kickbox) to 10,000 (MillionVerifier).
  • Check catch-all and unknown billing. On a B2B list this can change your real cost more than the per-check price.
  • Read the guarantee’s conditions. Most require you to send within 24 to 72 hours and exclude freemail or Microsoft addresses.
  • Match the volume pattern. One-off cleans suit non-expiring credits (Bouncer, MillionVerifier, DeBounce, Emailable). Steady monthly volume suits a subscription (NeverBounce Growth, ZeroBounce ONE, Clearout).
  • Verify at the source. A real-time API on sign-up forms stops bad addresses entering your list at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best email verifier software?

For most teams, Bouncer offers the best balance of price, low unknown rate and a written refund policy. MillionVerifier and DeBounce win on cost for big lists. NeverBounce and ZeroBounce are the safer picks if you want broad integrations and a well-known vendor.

How much does email verification cost per 1,000 emails?

Between about $2.50 and $13 at the 10,000 tier, based on September 2026 list prices: DeBounce $2.50, MillionVerifier $3.90, Bouncer and Emailable $6, Kickbox $7, NeverBounce $8 and ZeroBounce $12.90. Prices fall sharply at 100,000 and above.

Do email verifiers charge for unknown results?

Most don’t. ZeroBounce, Kickbox, Bouncer, Clearout, Emailable, MillionVerifier and Hunter all state that unknown results are free or refunded. NeverBounce and DeBounce don’t say either way on the pages we checked.

Should I send to catch-all emails?

Carefully. Send to them in small batches from a warmed-up domain, watch bounces, and drop the segment if bounces climb. Tools like MillionVerifier, Bouncer and ZeroBounce’s scoring can separate likely-good catch-alls from risky ones.

Is ZeroBounce or NeverBounce more accurate?

The published tests put them close together: 60.7% vs 63.2% in Hunter’s strict test and 98.8% vs 98.6% in Warmup Inbox’s. Pick on price, guarantee and extras. NeverBounce is cheaper and caps bounces at 3%; ZeroBounce bundles more deliverability tools.

How often should I verify my email list?

Before any large send to a list that hasn’t been mailed recently, and on a schedule for lists you mail regularly, because B2B addresses decay as people change jobs. Several vendors, including NeverBounce Growth, Clearout Data Pulse and MillionVerifier EverClean, can clean your CRM or list automatically.
