What is Puppet?
Puppet is a configuration management tool that enforces declared system state continuously: an agent on each node checks in against the Puppet server, compares actual state to the declared catalog, and corrects drift. That continuous enforcement model is the difference from push-based tools — configuration does not silently rot between deployments. It is used at large scale in enterprises with long-lived server estates and strict compliance requirements, where being able to prove a machine is in its declared state matters. Puppet is now owned by Perforce.
