What is Heroku?
Heroku is a managed application platform where deployment is a git push and the platform handles build, runtime, scaling and add-on services such as Postgres, Redis and Kafka. It defined the developer experience that most later platforms copied, and it remains a reasonable choice when engineering time is more expensive than hosting — small teams, prototypes and internal tools where nobody wants to operate infrastructure. Its trade-offs are cost at scale and less control than a cloud provider gives. Heroku is owned by Salesforce.
