What is Terraform?
Terraform is HashiCorp's infrastructure as code tool: infrastructure is declared in HCL configuration files, and Terraform plans the changes needed to reach that state and then applies them, tracking what exists in a state file. Its provider ecosystem covers all major clouds and a very long tail of SaaS services, which is why it became the default for multi-cloud and hybrid estates. HashiCorp is now part of IBM. Note the license change: Terraform moved from open source to the Business Source License in 2023, which prompted the OpenTofu fork.
