What is Ansible?
Ansible is Red Hat's configuration management and automation tool. Its defining design choice is that it is agentless — it connects over SSH or WinRM and runs tasks, so there is nothing to install and maintain on managed hosts, which is the main reason it displaced agent-based predecessors in many estates. Playbooks are written in YAML and are declarative about desired state. Beyond server configuration it is widely used for network device automation and orchestration. Ansible Automation Platform is the commercial edition, adding a control plane, RBAC and support on top of the open source core.
