How to choose Agentic AI
Start from where the agent has to run. If the work touches data you cannot send to a vendor, filter for products that ship a self-hosted build and read the licence before anything else; Agno, Mastra, Griptape, Langflow, Letta, Skyvern and Orkes all run inside your own infrastructure. If you want something running this week and have no engineers to spare, look at the hosted platforms instead, where StackAI and Beam AI both publish a free entry plan. Next decide how the agent reaches the systems you care about. Where a real API exists, a framework calling typed functions is cheaper and far easier to debug. Where there is no API, you need browser infrastructure, and that is a separate purchase: Browserbase, Steel and Browser Use all sell cloud browser sessions by the hour at rates between 0.02 and 0.12 dollars, while Skyvern sells the finished automation by the credit. Then check what happens when a step fails at 3am. Durable execution, checkpoints and resumable state are the difference between a run you restart and a run you reconstruct by hand. Orkes and Mastra are explicit about this; many frameworks are not. Finally, model the bill at your real volume before you sign. A browser agent at 1,000 runs a day on a 0.10 dollar browser hour is a different purchase from the same agent on a flat 250 dollars a month, and the rate card is the only place that difference shows up.
