Quick answer: Samsara is quote-based and publishes no price list on its own site. The most detailed public numbers come from a cooperative purchasing contract: Samsara’s price sheet for Sourcewell contract 020221-SAM lists the Vehicle Gateway license at $39 per vehicle per month, a dual-facing AI dash cam license at $55 per month, and one-time hardware from $179 for a VG54 gateway and $399 for a dual-facing dash cam, before a 15% Sourcewell discount. Samsara’s own annual report says contracts typically run three to five years and are generally non-cancelable. All figures vendor-published, checked September 2026.
Samsara is one of the two largest names in commercial fleet telematics, and one of the hardest to price before you talk to sales. Its pricing page lists six packages, each with a “Get pricing” button and no number. That leaves buyers piecing together figures from forums, reseller listings and review sites, usually without knowing which product or contract term a number refers to.
This guide uses sources you can check yourself: Samsara’s public cooperative contract price sheet, its Terms of Service and its Form 10-K. It explains how the license-plus-hardware model works, what each piece of hardware costs at list, what 10 and 50 vehicles come to over a three-year term, and where there is room to negotiate.
How Much Does Samsara Cost?
Samsara does not publish commercial prices, so the honest answer has two parts.
- Public contract list prices. Public agencies can buy Samsara through Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing agency. The price sheet Samsara filed for Sourcewell contract 020221-SAM (the file on files.sourcewell.org is dated December 23, 2024) lists every license and device with a monthly and annual list price. This is public contract pricing, not a quote to a private fleet, and the contract has since been replaced (see below).
- Your quote. Commercial buyers get a custom quote. Samsara’s quote form starts by asking how many vehicles or assets you run, from 1 to 5 up to 5,000+, which tells you fleet size drives the offer.
On the Sourcewell list, a truck with the Vehicle Gateway and a dual-facing AI dash cam carries $94 per month in licenses ($39 + $55) plus $578 in one-time hardware ($179 + $399). A vehicle that only needs GPS tracking and ELD comes to $39 a month plus the $179 gateway.
How Samsara’s Pricing Model Works
Samsara sells a software license for each device, not a flat plan per company. Every Vehicle Gateway, dash cam or asset tracker you install needs its own license for the length of your contract. The price sheet describes the Vehicle Gateway license as including “support, software updates, hosted service, and cellular connectivity,” so there is no separate data plan for the standard license.
Contract cost = (licenses per vehicle × monthly rate × months in term) + one-time hardware + installation
Three things follow from that model:
- Your product mix matters more than your headcount. A vehicle with a gateway only and a vehicle with a gateway plus a dual-facing camera are priced very differently.
- The license is tied to the hardware. Samsara’s hardware terms say the firmware license for each device depends on a valid software license, and the license bought with a device “is only valid for use with that Hardware unit.”
- Packages sit on top of the licenses. Samsara markets Safety Premier and Safety Enterprise, Telematics Premier and Telematics Enterprise, and Standard Visibility and Advanced Tracking for trailers and equipment. The Sourcewell SKUs are the “Enterprise” (ENT) licenses, so treat the list prices below as enterprise-tier rates.
Samsara Hardware and License Prices (Public Contract List)
The table lists the core devices with the list prices from Samsara’s price sheet for Sourcewell contract 020221-SAM. Hardware is shown as a one-time cost; licenses recur every month of the term. Sourcewell members received 15% off most lines.
| Item | SKU on the price sheet | List price | Sourcewell price (15% off) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicle Gateway license (GPS, FMCSA-registered ELD, diagnostics, Wi-Fi hotspot, driver app) | LIC-VG-ENT | $39/month ($468/year) | $33.15/month |
| Vehicle Gateway hardware, VG54 (North America) | HW-VG54-NA | $179 one-time | $152.15 |
| Dual-facing AI dash cam license | LIC-CM2-ENT | $55/month ($660/year) | $46.75/month |
| Dual-facing AI dash cam hardware (CM32) | HW-CM32 | $399 one-time | $339.15 |
| Forward-facing AI dash cam license | LIC-CM1-ENT | $39/month | $33.15/month |
| Forward-facing AI dash cam hardware (CM31) | HW-CM31 | $299 one-time | $254.15 |
| Powered asset gateway (AG26) license / hardware | LIC-AG2-ENT / HW-AG26 | $19/month / $299 | $16.15 / $254.15 |
| Unpowered asset tracker (AG46) license / hardware | LIC-AG4-ENT / HW-AG46 | $10/month / $99 | $8.50 / $84.15 |
| Powered asset tracker (AG46P) license / hardware | LIC-AG4P-ENT / HW-AG46P | $12/month / $149 | $10.20 / $126.65 |
| Live streaming (10 hours per camera per month) | LIC-CM-STRM | $5/month | $4.25/month |
| Extra Wi-Fi data, 1GB total | LIC-1GB-WIFI-DATA | $10/month | $8.50/month |
Two caveats. First, the sheet lists the CM31 and CM32 cameras; Samsara’s current hardware page shows the newer CM33 (front-facing) and CM34 (dual-facing), so current camera prices may differ. Second, the same sheet also includes a public-sector-only gateway license without ELD or Wi-Fi (LIC-VG-PS) at $23 a month, which private fleets cannot buy.
What changed with the new contract: Samsara now holds Sourcewell contract 102924-SAM, which matures on April 23, 2029. Its price document no longer lists item prices. It says only that Samsara “has submitted preferred pricing for all public sector accounts” and that “additional discounts may be offered based on factors such as purchase volume, payment terms, and strategic importance.” The 020221-SAM sheet is therefore the most recent itemized public list we could find, not a current commercial rate.
What Samsara Costs for 10 and 50 Vehicles
These are estimates, not quotes, built only from the 020221-SAM list prices above and a 36-month term. They exclude installation, taxes, extra data and any add-ons. “Telematics” means a VG54 gateway and license per vehicle. “Telematics + dual cam” adds a CM32 camera and its license.
| Fleet and setup | Licenses per month (list) | One-time hardware (list) | 36-month total at list | 36-month total at Sourcewell 15% off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 vehicles, telematics | $390 | $1,790 | $15,830 | $13,456 |
| 10 vehicles, telematics + dual cam | $940 | $5,780 | $39,620 | $33,677 |
| 50 vehicles, telematics | $1,950 | $8,950 | $79,150 | $67,278 |
| 50 vehicles, telematics + dual cam | $4,700 | $28,900 | $198,100 | $168,385 |
Read the list-price column as a ceiling. Commercial quotes are negotiated, and the new Sourcewell contract itself points to volume and payment-term discounts. The value of the table is the shape of the bill: over a three-year term, licenses are roughly 85% to 90% of the total, so the monthly license rate is the number to negotiate hardest.
For a sense of who Samsara’s pricing is built around, its Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 reports “over 12,000 Core Customers,” defined as customers each representing $25,000 or more in annual recurring revenue, and 3,194 customers above $100,000. Smaller fleets can buy Samsara, but the company’s focus is larger accounts.
How Long Is a Samsara Contract?
Samsara’s Form 10-K for fiscal 2026 states that its contracts “typically span an initial term of three to five years and are generally non-cancelable and non-refundable, subject to limited exceptions.” Its Master Terms of Service add the details that matter most at signing:
- Auto-renewal. Unless you give written notice at least 30 days before the license expiration date, Samsara may renew your licenses for up to the greater of one year or the length of your previous term.
- No early exit. Unless your order form says otherwise, an order form “cannot be terminated prior to the applicable License Expiration Date.”
- Payment method carries over. On an automatic renewal, you keep the billing frequency from your original order form (monthly, annual or upfront).
- Late fees. Late payments are subject to a 1.5% per month late fee, and wire transfers can carry a processing fee of up to 3%.
Put a calendar reminder 60 days before your expiration date. Missing the 30-day notice window is the most common way a fleet ends up renewed for another full term.
Hidden Costs: Installation, Warranty and Returns
- Installation is on you. Samsara’s hardware terms say the customer “is responsible for installation of the Hardware.” Many gateways plug into the diagnostic port, but camera wiring and heavy equipment often need a technician. Get installer quotes before you sign.
- Warranty follows the license. Samsara’s warranty policy says licensed hardware is covered “for as long as you maintain a valid license,” while accessories and cables get one year.
- 30-day return window. Refunds are available within 30 days of shipment for new or like-new products bought by the original purchaser. That window does not cover renewals or purchases made after a trial.
- Add-ons. Live streaming, extra Wi-Fi data, camera connectors, ID card readers, panic buttons and sensors each carry their own license or one-time price on the sheet.
- Co-terming. Samsara’s renewal clause allows a renewal term set “to align license expiration dates with another of your active orders.” If you add devices mid-contract, ask when they expire and what rate they renew at.
How to Negotiate a Samsara Quote
- Ask for the quote by SKU. Request each license and device as a line item with monthly rate, term and hardware price, so you can compare it with the public list above.
- Trade term for price. Samsara’s own filings describe three to five year terms as typical. If you accept five years, ask for a lower monthly rate or hardware credits in return.
- License only what each vehicle needs. A forward-facing camera license lists at $39 against $55 for dual-facing. Light vehicles that only need tracking may not need a camera at all.
- Cap renewal pricing. Ask for renewal at the same rate, or a written cap on increases, in the order form. The Terms of Service let the order form override the standard terms.
- Get a competing quote. Motive, Verizon Connect and Geotab all sell comparable telematics and camera bundles. See our Samsara alternatives guide and Samsara vs Verizon Connect comparison.
- Public agencies: use the co-op contract. Buying through Sourcewell 102924-SAM skips a full RFP and gives you a documented discount basis to start from.
- Pilot first. Put a handful of vehicles on the platform inside the 30-day return window before committing the whole fleet.
Is Samsara Worth the Cost?
Samsara tends to earn its price when a fleet will use several parts of the platform together: AI dash cams with in-cab coaching, ELD and hours of service, maintenance and fuel reporting, and asset or trailer tracking, all in one dashboard. Its plans page also advertises a 99.99% uptime guarantee and 24/7 support.
It is harder to justify for a small fleet that only needs GPS dots on a map or basic ELD compliance, because the multi-year commitment and per-device licensing add up quickly. Lower-cost tracking vendors publish month-to-month plans; our vehicle tracking pricing guide compares them. If maintenance is the main job, a dedicated tool can sit alongside a cheaper tracker; see our guide to fleet maintenance software.
Samsara vs Motive on Cost
Neither vendor publishes commercial prices, and both sell per-device, multi-year subscriptions. Motive’s S-1 filing (December 2025) says its subscriptions are “priced on a per asset, per product basis,” include “an integrated suite of hardware devices,” and typically span three years with automatic one-year renewals. Samsara’s public price sheet, by contrast, lists hardware as a separate one-time purchase. On their Sourcewell contracts, Samsara lists a 15% discount on the older sheet while Motive’s 102924-MTV sheet offers 9% off its commercial list price. Ask each vendor to quote the same vehicles, cameras and term so the totals are comparable.
The Short Version
Budget from the licenses, not the hardware. At Samsara’s public Sourcewell list, a tracked vehicle costs $39 a month plus a $179 gateway, and adding a dual-facing AI dash cam brings it to $94 a month plus $578 in hardware. Contracts typically run three to five years, auto-renew without 30 days’ written notice and cannot be ended early. Treat those list prices as a ceiling, ask for line-item quotes, and negotiate the monthly license rate and renewal terms before you sign.
Checked September 2026: samsara.com/resources/plans lists no prices. List prices come from Samsara’s price sheet for Sourcewell contract 020221-SAM (files.sourcewell.org, file dated December 23, 2024); the current contract 102924-SAM (maturity April 23, 2029) publishes discount terms only. Contract terms come from Samsara’s Form 10-K for fiscal 2026, Master Terms of Service, Hardware Terms of Service and Hardware Warranty and RMA Policy. Confirm every rate on your own quote.

Frequently Asked Questions About Samsara Pricing
How much does a Samsara system cost?
Samsara quotes each fleet individually. Its public Sourcewell 020221-SAM price sheet lists the Vehicle Gateway license at $39 per vehicle per month and the VG54 gateway at $179 one-time. A dual-facing AI dash cam adds $55 a month and $399 in hardware, so a fully equipped truck lists at $94 a month plus $578 up front.
How much does Samsara cost per month?
At public contract list prices, $39 per vehicle per month for GPS tracking and ELD, and $94 per vehicle per month with a dual-facing AI dash cam. Sourcewell members received 15% off, and commercial quotes are negotiated, so your rate depends on fleet size, products and contract length.
Does Samsara require a long-term contract?
Yes. Samsara’s Form 10-K says contracts typically run three to five years and are generally non-cancelable and non-refundable. Its Terms of Service renew licenses automatically unless you give written notice at least 30 days before they expire.
Is Samsara hardware free?
Not on the public price sheet, which lists hardware as a one-time purchase, for example $179 for a VG54 gateway and $399 for a CM32 dual-facing camera. Commercial quotes can discount or bundle hardware, so ask how it is priced in your order form. Installation is the customer’s responsibility.
Can I cancel Samsara early?
Generally no. Samsara’s Master Terms of Service say an order form cannot be terminated before its license expiration date unless the order form says otherwise. The main exit points are the 30-day hardware refund window after shipment and the notice window before renewal.
Who is Samsara’s biggest competitor?
Motive is Samsara’s most direct rival in trucking, with Verizon Connect and Geotab also competing for larger fleets. The two companies have been in litigation since 2024, so treat each vendor’s comparison claims about the other with care.
Does Samsara offer government pricing?
Yes. Public agencies can buy through Sourcewell contract 102924-SAM, which matures April 23, 2029. Its price document describes preferred public-sector pricing and possible extra discounts for volume and payment terms, but no longer lists item prices.
