Verdict: Rippling is one of the highest-rated HR and payroll platforms on public review sites, and users most often praise its ease of use and automation. It fits growing companies, from small teams to thousands of employees, that want HR, payroll, IT and spend management on one employee record. It fits less well if you only need simple payroll, because pricing is quote-only and modular, and reviewers repeatedly say costs climb as modules are added. Ratings and vendor facts checked September 2026.

What Does Rippling Do?
Rippling is a workforce platform that runs HR, payroll, IT and finance tasks from a single employee record. Founded in 2016, it describes its approach as building every product on one shared data set, so a change such as a promotion or a new hire updates payroll, app access, devices and spend policies at the same time. That is where the name comes from: one change “ripples” through every system.
The product catalogue on Rippling’s site is broad. The main groups are:
- HR (HCM): HRIS, recruiting, performance, learning management, surveys, benefits administration, time and attendance, scheduling, HR Services and a PEO.
- Payroll: US payroll, contractor payments, global payroll, employer of record (EOR) and contractor of record.
- IT: identity and access management, device management and inventory management.
- Finance: expense management, corporate cards, bill pay and travel.
- Platform tools: Workflow Studio for automations, custom reports and analytics, permissions, policies, App Studio and an AI assistant.
Rippling says it has more than 30,000 customers, offers 650+ integrations, and supports global teams through payroll, EOR and contractor management in 185+ countries. Those are vendor-published figures, checked September 2026.
Who Is Rippling Best For, and Who Should Skip It?
Rippling suits growing companies that are tired of re-keying the same employee data into five systems. The payoff from a single record grows with every extra tool you replace, so the value case is strongest when you buy several modules.
Good fits:
- Startups and mid-sized companies hiring quickly, especially tech companies that also need to provision laptops and app accounts on day one.
- Companies with employees in several US states, or with a mix of US staff, international contractors and a few EOR hires.
- Teams that want to build their own automations (for example, alerting a manager when overtime crosses a threshold) without writing code.
- Businesses that want a PEO today but may want to leave the co-employment model later without switching software.
Weaker fits:
- Very small businesses that only need to pay a handful of employees. A payroll-first tool with published pricing, such as Gusto, is simpler to budget for. See our Rippling vs Gusto comparison.
- Companies that want a fixed, published price before speaking to sales.
- IT teams with complex Mac fleets who need a dedicated device management tool; this is where the most vocal criticism on Reddit sits (see below).
How Much Does Rippling Cost?
Rippling does not publish prices; you get a custom quote based on the products you choose and your headcount. According to Rippling’s pricing page, every customer buys the core Rippling Platform, then adds products such as Payroll, Benefits, Expenses or Device Management individually. Most products are billed per employee per month, and some carry or include a monthly base fee.
Three practical points from the pricing FAQ and from reviewers:
- Modules add up. The most repeated pricing complaint on G2 is that costs escalate as you add modules, and that pricing was not clear during the sales process.
- Switching mid-year is supported. Rippling says its team imports year-to-date payroll data so you do not need to wait for January to move.
- Partner pricing exists for accountants and benefits brokers.

What Do Rippling Users Like?
Ease of use is the single most mentioned strength across review sites. G2’s summary ranks ease of use, an intuitive interface, simple navigation, easy setup, time saved and payroll management as the top positive themes. Capterra reviewers give Rippling 4.9 out of 5 for ease of use.
The recurring positives, summarised from G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and Spotsaas buyer feedback:
- One place for everything. Capterra reviewers highlight consolidating HR, payroll, IT and compliance, and smooth onboarding and offboarding workflows.
- Automation. Reviewers on G2 describe app provisioning that creates and removes accounts automatically based on department and role. Spotsaas buyers list HR and IT automation as a top reason they chose it.
- Employee self-service. Trustpilot’s review summary says customers praise the design for time tracking, onboarding and payroll tasks, and G2 reviewers mention the mobile app.
- Payroll visibility. Capterra reviewers mention reliable payroll processing with clear visibility into each run.
- Compliance help. Spotsaas buyers point to compliance management for local and international rules.
What Are the Most Common Rippling Complaints?
The complaints cluster around cost, setup effort and support on specific issues, not around the core product being hard to use. Here is what shows up repeatedly:
- Pricing transparency and creep. G2’s summary notes that small businesses with simple needs often find the price out of proportion to their usage. Capterra reviewers also mention extra costs for additional modules and integrations.
- Setup and configuration. Capterra and Trustpilot reviewers say initial configuration can feel complicated, and G2 reviewers mention a learning curve for advanced features.
- Reporting depth and speed. Some G2 and Capterra reviewers want more reporting flexibility or report slow loading on large data sets.
- Support on hard cases. Trustpilot’s summary notes some reports of unresponsive support and occasional payroll processing errors. On Capterra, one franchise operator described serious multi-location payroll and tax problems during implementation.
- Device management. Several Reddit threads from IT administrators (in r/macsysadmin and r/ITManagers) are strongly critical of Rippling’s MDM module. These are individual accounts, but if Mac device management matters to you, test it in a pilot.
Our read: Rippling’s ratings are high across every source we checked, so the negatives are a minority. But they are consistent, which makes them useful questions for your demo.
How Does Rippling Compare With Its Main Alternatives?

| Gusto | Small US businesses that mainly need payroll and benefits | Published plans | Simpler and easier to budget; no IT or device management |

Is Rippling Trustworthy?
By customer ratings, yes: Rippling scores 4.5 or higher on every major review site we checked. It also publishes live customer support metrics on its website, which is uncommon in this category. Its site footer lists the licences its affiliated entities hold, including an insurance agency licence and NMLS registrations.
Two things to keep in perspective. First, Rippling is in active litigation with Deel over corporate espionage claims; that dispute is between the two companies and is still in the courts. Second, Rippling PEO does not appear on the IRS list of certified PEOs as of our September 2026 check. Our Rippling PEO guide explains what that means for tax liability.
Our Verdict: Is Rippling Worth It in 2026?
Rippling is worth it if you will use at least three of its product areas. The shared employee record and automation are what reviewers value most, and that value compounds with every tool it replaces. If you only need payroll for a small US team, you will likely pay for platform capability you do not use.
Before you sign:
- List every module you expect to need in the next 18 months and ask for a quote that includes them all.
- Ask how the price changes as headcount grows and what the renewal terms are.
- Run a pilot of any module where reviewers report problems, especially device management and multi-location payroll.
- Compare the quote against other HR software and payroll software at your headcount.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Rippling cost a month?
There is no public monthly price. Rippling builds a custom quote from the core platform plus each product you add, mostly billed per employee per month, with some products carrying a monthly base fee.
What big companies use Rippling?
Rippling’s own case studies feature Chess.com, Barry’s, Kleiner Perkins, Y Combinator, Blank Street Coffee and Clay, among others. Most of its customer base is small and mid-sized businesses.
Why is Rippling so popular?
Mainly because one employee record drives HR, payroll, IT and finance, so admin work that normally spans several tools happens once. Reviewers on G2 mention ease of use more than any other theme.
Is Rippling good to work for?
That question is about Rippling as an employer, which Glassdoor covers through employee reviews. This article reviews Rippling as software; customer ratings on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot are a separate measure.
Where is Rippling headquartered?
San Francisco, California.
Does Rippling offer a free trial?
Rippling does not advertise a self-serve free trial. You request a demo and a quote, and some Trustpilot reviewers have criticised the lack of a trial option.
Is Rippling better than Gusto?
For a growing company that wants HR, IT and payroll together, Rippling usually fits better. For a small US business that mainly runs payroll and benefits, Gusto is simpler and publishes its prices.
