Quick answer: Rippling is quote-based. Its pricing page lists no rates, but Rippling’s own small-business page advertises a starting price of $8 per user per month plus a $40 monthly base fee for the core platform, and its payroll guide lists US payroll from $8 per employee per month (billed annually). Every other module is quoted. On those published starting rates alone, HR plus payroll for 10 employees comes to about $200 a month; buyer-reported deals for small teams run $15 to $35 per employee per month once several modules are added. All Rippling figures checked September 2026.
Rippling is one of the most searched HR platforms and one of the hardest to price in advance. There is no plan grid, no calculator and no checkout. You tell Rippling what you need and a sales rep sends a quote. That is why buyers see numbers from $8 to $40 per employee quoted online, often without any explanation of what each figure includes.
This guide separates what Rippling itself publishes from what third parties report, explains how the platform-plus-modules model works, and puts rough numbers on teams of 10, 50 and 200 people. It also covers the costs that sit outside the per-employee rate and how to read a quote line by line. Try Rippling free →
How Much Does Rippling Cost?
Rippling does not publish a price list, so the honest answer comes in three layers:
- What Rippling advertises as a starting point. Its small-business page says “Starting at $8 per user per month. Plus, a $40 per month base fee.” Its own HRIS review quotes the same $8 with a $35 base fee, so the base fee itself varies by source. Neither is a quote for a working HR and payroll setup.
- What Rippling estimates for a fuller setup. The same HRIS review says a 100-employee company using HRIS, Payroll, Benefits Admin and Time & Attendance should expect roughly $15 to $25 per employee per month, and that setups adding global payroll, IT and spend management can run $30 to $50+ per employee.
- What buyers report paying. Procurement platform Vendr, using anonymized transactions in its dataset, reports $15 to $35 per employee per month for teams of 10 to 50 on the base platform plus two to four modules, and $20 to $40 for 50 to 250 employees on four to six modules. These are Vendr’s observations, not Rippling prices.
In practice, the $8 figure is the entry fee to the platform. Payroll, benefits, time tracking, IT and finance tools each add their own charge, and that is where most of the bill comes from.
How Rippling’s Pricing Model Works
Rippling sells a required core platform and lets you add products on top. Its pricing FAQ puts it plainly: each HR, Finance and IT product “can be purchased separately, alongside the core, required Rippling Platform.” It also says that most products are “billed on a simple per-employee, per-month basis,” while some “may be charged at (or include) a monthly base fee.”
That gives you a simple formula to check any quote against:
Monthly cost = platform base fee + (headcount × platform rate) + (headcount × each module’s rate) + any module base fees
The platform itself is the shared employee record: the directory, org chart, permissions, policies, workflows, reporting and integrations. Every module reads from it, which is why a new hire’s payroll, benefits enrollment, laptop order and app access can all run from one onboarding event. It is also why you cannot buy a single module on its own.
Two consequences follow. First, two companies of the same size can pay very different amounts, because the module mix drives the price more than headcount does. Second, comparing Rippling’s $8 with a competitor’s all-in plan price understates Rippling, because payroll is not in the $8.
Rippling Modules and What Each One Costs
Rippling groups its products into HCM, payroll, IT, finance and global. The table lists every major module with the price Rippling itself has published, where one exists. “Quote” means we found no current Rippling-published rate.
| Module | What it covers | Rippling-published starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Rippling Platform / HRIS (required) | Employee records, org chart, documents, onboarding, time off, workflows, permissions, reporting, 650+ integrations | $8 per user per month + $40 monthly base fee (small-business page); $8 + $35 base fee in Rippling’s HRIS review |
| US Payroll | Payroll runs, federal, state and local tax filing, direct deposit, year-end forms, contractor payments | $8 per employee per month billed annually, or $10 billed monthly (Rippling payroll review) |
| Benefits administration | Health, dental and vision enrollment, carrier connections, FSA, HSA, commuter benefits | Quote (insurance premiums are separate) |
| Time & attendance, scheduling | Time clocks, overtime rules, shift scheduling, sync to payroll | Quote |
| Talent: recruiting, performance, surveys, learning, headcount planning | Applicant tracking, reviews, engagement surveys, compliance training | Quote, each priced separately |
| IT: identity & access, device management, inventory | SSO, app provisioning, MDM, laptop ordering, shipping, retrieval and storage | Quote (device hardware billed on top) |
| Spend: expenses, corporate cards, bill pay, travel | Reimbursements, card controls, AP, travel booking | Quote |
| PEO | US co-employment: payroll, benefits access, workers’ comp, EPLI, HR support | Quote |
| Employer of Record (EOR) | Employing people in countries where you have no entity | From $499 per employee per month (Rippling’s Rippling vs Deel guide) |
| Global payroll | Payroll for employees in your own foreign entities, in local currency | Quote (a Rippling global payroll landing page still shows “Starting at $8 per month per user”, the platform rate) |
| Contractors, Contractor of Record | Paying international contractors; compliance cover for contractor relationships | Quote |
Sources: rippling.com pricing, small-business, payroll review, HRIS review, EOR, PEO and device management pages, checked September 2026. Rippling’s own pages are not fully consistent (the $35 and $40 base fees are one example), so treat every figure as a starting reference and confirm it on your order form.
For comparison, Forbes Advisor reports that a quote it obtained by phone priced Rippling Platform Core at $10 per user, Platform Pro at $18 per user and Payroll at $15 per employee. That is one quote to one buyer, but it shows how far real quotes can sit above the advertised floor.
What Rippling Costs for 10, 50 and 200 Employees
These are estimates, not quotes. We built them three ways so you can see the spread:
- Published floor: Rippling’s advertised platform rate ($8 per user + $40 base fee) plus US payroll at $8 per employee, billed annually. This is the lowest plausible bill for HR plus payroll, with nothing else switched on.
- Rippling’s own multi-module range: the $15 to $25 per employee that Rippling’s HRIS review gives for HRIS, payroll, benefits admin and time tracking. Rippling gives that range for 100 employees; applying it to 10 and 200 is our assumption.
- Vendr buyer-reported range: $15 to $35 per employee for 10 to 50 employees, $20 to $40 for 50 to 250 employees, from Vendr’s transaction data.
| Team size | Published floor (HR + payroll) | Rippling’s multi-module range | Vendr buyer-reported range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 employees | $200/month ($2,400/year) | $150 to $250/month | $150 to $350/month |
| 50 employees | $840/month ($10,080/year) | $750 to $1,250/month | $750 to $1,750/month |
| 200 employees | $3,240/month ($38,880/year) | $3,000 to $5,000/month | $4,000 to $8,000/month |
How the floor is calculated: 10 employees = $40 + (10 × $8) + (10 × $8) = $200. The same formula gives $840 for 50 and $3,240 for 200. If payroll is billed monthly at $10, add $2 per employee. None of the columns include implementation, device hardware, insurance premiums or taxes.
What the numbers suggest:
- At 10 employees, the $40 base fee is a large share of the bill, so the effective rate per person is highest. A small team that only needs payroll will usually find a payroll-first tool cheaper (see the comparison below).
- At 50 employees, most companies add benefits administration and time tracking, which is where the Rippling and Vendr ranges start. This is also the size where device and app management begins to earn its cost for remote teams.
- At 200 employees, the module count decides everything. Rippling says setups with global payroll, IT and spend can run $30 to $50+ per employee, which would be $6,000 to $10,000+ a month at this size. Negotiation matters most here, because the contract value is large enough for discounts to move real money.

What Buyers Report Paying for Rippling
Third-party figures are useful for sanity-checking a quote, as long as you know where they come from. None of them is a Rippling price.
| Source | What it reports | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Vendr | $15 to $35 PEPM (10 to 50 employees); $20 to $40 (50 to 250); $25 to $50+ (250+). Standard implementation $2,000 to $5,000; complex projects $15,000+. Multi-year terms 10% to 25% below annual. | Anonymized purchase transactions in Vendr’s dataset |
| Forbes Advisor | Platform Core $10 per user, Platform Pro $18 per user, Payroll $15 per employee | One custom quote obtained by phone |
| OutSail | $21 to $29 PEPM for core HR features, plus $5 to $20 PEPM for IT management; implementation around 5% to 15% of annual software fees | HR software advisory firm’s buyer engagements |
The sources broadly agree on one thing: a working Rippling setup usually lands at two to four times the $8 platform rate per employee. If your quote is far outside these ranges, ask which modules and support levels explain the difference.
Hidden Costs: Implementation, Hardware, Add-Ons and Contract Terms
The per-employee rate is only part of the first-year bill. These are the costs buyers most often miss.
Implementation and data migration
Rippling does not publish an implementation fee. Vendr reports $2,000 to $5,000 for a standard implementation and $15,000 or more for complex ones; OutSail puts it at around 5% to 15% of annual software fees. Ask for it in writing alongside the licence price, and ask whether moving mid-year payroll history is included. Rippling says it will import year-to-date payroll so you can switch before year end.
Device hardware and IT logistics
Rippling is an authorized reseller of Macs and PCs, so laptops ordered through the device management module are bought through Rippling, on top of the software fee. Shipping to new hires, automated retrieval kits for leavers and warehousing of unused devices (in the US and 26+ other countries) are part of the product. Ask which of these services are included and which are billed per device or per event.
Module base fees and add-ons
Rippling’s pricing FAQ says some products carry their own monthly base fee on top of the per-employee rate. Each talent, IT and spend product is also priced separately, so a quote that grows from three modules to six can double in size. Premium support tiers can add more.
Off-cycle and international payroll fees
Rippling’s payroll guide notes that in some EOR and global payroll jurisdictions handled through local partners, off-cycle payroll runs carry a $50 administrative fee per employee, per run. If you pay bonuses or corrections outside the normal cycle, ask for the country list.
Contract length, billing terms and renewal
Rippling prices payroll at $8 per employee when billed annually and $10 when billed monthly, so the billing term changes the rate. Check the order form for the minimum term, auto-renewal notice period, headcount minimums and any cap on renewal increases. Those terms are not published and differ by deal.
Benefits premiums and PEO fees
Benefits administration software is not insurance. Premiums for health, dental and vision plans are paid to carriers and sit outside the software bill. If you choose Rippling PEO, the PEO fee is quoted separately; Rippling’s own PEO cost guide says PEOs in general charge $500 to $1,500 per employee per year, or 2% to 12% of wages. Our guide to the best PEO for small business compares Rippling PEO with seven other providers.
Why Is Rippling So Expensive?
Rippling looks expensive for three reasons, and only one of them is about price.
The advertised number is incomplete. Buyers anchor on $8 per user, then find that payroll, benefits and time tracking are each extra. Against a payroll-first competitor that includes tax filing in its headline rate, Rippling’s base alone looks cheap and its full quote looks dear.
It covers work other HR tools skip. Device management, app provisioning, identity and access, corporate cards and global employment all sit on the same employee record. A company using those modules is buying what would otherwise be three or four separate tools, so its per-employee rate is higher, while its total software spend may be lower.
Pricing is negotiated. Without a public rate card, the first quote is an opening position. Buyers who compare alternatives and commit to longer terms report paying less for the same scope.
How to Read a Rippling Quote and Negotiate It
A Rippling quote is easiest to compare when every line is separated. Before you sign, make sure it shows:
- The platform line on its own: the per-user rate and the monthly base fee, and whether the rate is billed per employee, per user or per active worker.
- One line per module with its own rate and any module base fee. If modules are bundled into a single blended rate, ask for the split so you can remove one later.
- Headcount assumptions: quoted at your expected headcount in 12 months, not today, plus how mid-contract hires are billed.
- One-time fees: implementation, data migration and any device or hardware costs.
- Term and renewal: contract length, billing frequency, auto-renewal notice and the renewal rate or cap.
Then work the levers that actually move the total:
- Cut scope first. Ask which modules you could leave off and still solve the problem you came with. Removing a module usually saves more than a rate discount.
- Trade term for price. Vendr reports that multi-year commitments commonly come in 10% to 25% below annual pricing. Rippling’s own payroll pricing is lower on annual billing.
- Bundle what you will need anyway. Per Vendr, modules added mid-contract tend to be priced closer to list. If you know you will add benefits or time tracking next year, price them now.
- Bring a competing quote. A written quote from Gusto, BambooHR, Paylocity or ADP for the same scope gives the rep something concrete to match.
- Ask for implementation relief. One-time fees are often easier to reduce than recurring rates, especially near quarter end.
Rippling vs Gusto, Deel and BambooHR on Cost
Gusto, Deel and BambooHR publish more of their pricing than Rippling does, which makes them useful benchmarks. The table uses vendor-published prices, checked September 2026.
| Platform | Published pricing | 50 employees, per month | What is included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rippling | Quote; advertised from $8/user + $40 base; payroll from $8/employee (annual) | $840 floor for HR + payroll (estimate) | Platform + payroll only at that price; other modules extra |
| Gusto | Simple $49 + $6/person; Plus $80 + $12; Premium $180 + $22 | $680 on Plus; $1,280 on Premium | Payroll, tax filing and HR tools bundled by plan; no annual contract |
| BambooHR | Core $10, Pro $17, Elite $25 per employee; teams of 25 or fewer from $250/month flat | $500 on Core; $850 on Pro | HR platform; payroll is a separate add-on |
| Deel | EOR $599/employee; US PEO $125/employee; contractors $49/contractor | Depends on product mix | Strongest on global hiring; EOR and PEO include payroll |
Rippling vs Gusto. For straightforward US payroll, Gusto’s published plans usually cost less at 10 to 50 employees, and there is no annual contract. Rippling closes the gap, and can win, when you also need device and app management, because Gusto does not offer those. Our Rippling vs Gusto comparison works through cost at 10, 50 and 200 people, and the Gusto pricing guide has every plan and add-on.
Rippling vs Deel. On published EOR starting prices, Rippling ($499 per employee per month) sits below Deel ($599). Both charge on top for employment costs such as local taxes and statutory benefits. See our Rippling vs Deel EOR comparison and Deel pricing breakdown.
Rippling vs BambooHR. BambooHR publishes per-employee HR pricing, which makes budgeting simpler, but payroll and IT are not part of the core plans. Our BambooHR pricing guide covers the tiers.
Is Rippling More Expensive Than Paylocity or ADP?
There is no way to say from list prices, because neither publishes one. Paylocity’s pricing page asks you to request pricing with a demo, and ADP quotes its RUN packages. A fair comparison needs written quotes for the same scope from each vendor. What differs is structure: Rippling itemizes every module, which makes it easy to scope down, while Paylocity and ADP bundle more into their packages. Our Paylocity pricing guide sets out what drives its quotes.
Is Rippling Good for a Small Business?
It depends on what the small business needs. For a 10-person company running US payroll with no IT burden, Rippling’s base fee and per-module structure usually cost more than a payroll-first plan with the same outcome. For a small but distributed company that ships laptops, manages app access and hires abroad, Rippling can replace several tools, and that is where its price makes sense.
A quick test: if at least two of payroll, device management, app provisioning and international hiring are on your list for the next year, get a Rippling quote. If only payroll is, compare it with the options in our Rippling alternatives guide or the Rippling alternatives on Spotsaas first.
Why Is Rippling So Popular?
Mostly because of the single employee record. Rippling was founded in 2016 around the idea that HR, IT and finance should read from one source of truth, so a change in one place (a new hire, a promotion, a move to another country) updates payroll, benefits, devices and app access automatically. Rippling says more than 25,000 businesses use it, and its pricing page features customers such as Chess.com, Barry’s and Y Combinator. Reviews and ratings from users are on the Rippling profile on Spotsaas.
The Short Version
Budget from the modules, not from the $8. Rippling’s advertised starting price of $8 per user plus a $40 base fee buys the platform; US payroll starts at another $8 per employee on annual billing; everything else is quoted. Buyer-reported deals land at roughly $15 to $40 per employee per month depending on size and module mix, plus implementation. Rippling is rarely the cheapest option for simple payroll and is often good value when HR, IT and global hiring are the same job.
