Quick answer: For most organisations on Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune is the default endpoint management software, because Intune Plan 1 is included in Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 (or $8 per user per month on its own). ManageEngine Endpoint Central is the best value for Windows-heavy IT teams wanting on-premises or cloud (from $795 a year for 50 endpoints). Omnissa Workspace ONE suits large mixed estates and now publishes prices (UEM Essentials $5.25 per device per month). NinjaOne fits teams that want endpoint management and RMM on one agent. Hexnode is the budget cross-platform pick, Jamf the Apple specialist, and Tanium, HCL BigFix and Ivanti serve large enterprises by quote. Prices are vendor-published in USD, checked September 2026.

Endpoint management software gives IT one place to enroll, configure, update, secure and retire every device people use for work: Windows PCs, Macs, Linux servers, phones, tablets and increasingly rugged and shared devices. The category has consolidated under the name unified endpoint management (UEM), and the tools that compete in it come from three directions: mobile device management vendors that added desktops, desktop and patching vendors that added mobile, and RMM vendors that added policy and enrollment.

This guide compares ten endpoint management tools on price, platform coverage and fit; explains how UEM differs from MDM and RMM; and answers the questions buyers ask most. Every price comes from the vendor’s own site, checked September 2026. Where a vendor sells only by quote, we say so.

What Is Endpoint Management Software?

Endpoint management software is the system IT uses to keep every work device known, configured, updated and compliant. A capable tool covers the whole device lifecycle:

  • Enrollment and provisioning: zero-touch setup through Windows Autopilot, Apple Business Manager and Android Enterprise, so a device ships straight to the employee.
  • Configuration and policy: Wi-Fi, VPN, encryption, passcodes, restrictions and compliance rules.
  • Apps and updates: app deployment, OS updates and third-party patching.
  • Security and access: compliance signals that feed conditional access, remote lock and wipe, and integration with endpoint protection.
  • Inventory and reporting: hardware and software inventory, patch compliance and audit reports.
  • Retirement: secure wipe and unenrollment when a device leaves.

UEM vs MDM vs RMM: What’s the Difference?

MDM UEM RMM
Main job Enroll and secure mobile devices Policy, apps and updates for every device type Monitor and fix devices, often for many clients
Devices Phones and tablets (Macs on Apple-focused tools) Phones, tablets, PCs, Macs, rugged, shared, IoT Workstations, servers, network devices
Typical buyer IT or security in companies with mobile fleets Internal IT at mid-size and large organisations MSPs and lean internal IT teams
Strengths Enrollment, BYOD separation, remote wipe One policy engine, compliance, conditional access Alerting, scripting, remote control, ticketing, multi-tenant
Examples Jamf, Hexnode MDM, Scalefusion Intune, Workspace ONE, Endpoint Central, Ivanti NinjaOne, Atera, Datto RMM, N-able

In practice the lines blur. NinjaOne and Kaseya VSA add MDM to RMM; Endpoint Central adds remote control to UEM; Intune leans on Autopatch and Remote Help for RMM-style work. Many organisations run one UEM for policy and compliance and one RMM for day-to-day operations. For mobile-first needs see our MDM software guide; for MSP-style operations see our RMM software guide.

The 10 Best Endpoint Management Tools in 2026

1. Microsoft Intune: best for Microsoft 365 organisations

Intune manages Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux, and its compliance signals feed Microsoft Entra conditional access. Pricing is per user: Plan 1 costs $8 per user per month standalone and is included in Microsoft 365 E3 ($39) and E5 ($60) and in EMS E3 and E5. Add-ons are priced individually: Plan 2 $4, Remote Help $3.50, Endpoint Privilege Management $3, Advanced Analytics $5, Enterprise Application Management $2 and Cloud PKI $2 per user per month, or the Intune Suite at $10.

Microsoft says that from July 2026 it is folding Remote Help, Advanced Analytics and Plan 2 capabilities into Microsoft 365 E3, with E5 also getting Endpoint Privilege Management, Cloud PKI and Enterprise App Management. Check your tenant before buying add-ons. Windows updates can be automated with Windows Autopatch on qualifying licenses. See Intune, Intune pricing and Intune alternatives.

2. ManageEngine Endpoint Central: best value for Windows-heavy IT teams

Endpoint Central (formerly Desktop Central) combines patching, software deployment, remote control and asset inventory, with OS deployment, EDR, malware protection and ransomware protection sold as add-ons, and mobile device management in its UEM edition. It publishes prices by endpoint bundle with one technician included. The Professional edition costs $795 a year on-premises for 50 endpoints ($1,987 perpetual), or $104 a month ($1,045 a year) in the cloud, scaling to $43,195 a year on-premises for 10,000 endpoints. Servers are licensed separately, from $295 a year for 10. Enterprise, UEM and Security editions add capabilities at higher prices. See the Endpoint Central profile; MSPs should look at Endpoint Central MSP.

3. Omnissa Workspace ONE UEM: best for large, mixed estates

Workspace ONE UEM, formerly a VMware product, is now sold by Omnissa. Omnissa, VMware’s former End-User Computing business, became an independent company in 2024 when investment firm KKR completed its acquisition from Broadcom. Unusually for an enterprise UEM, Omnissa publishes prices, quoted monthly on 12 months prepaid with production support:

  • Mobile Essentials: $3.00 per device or $5.40 per user
  • Desktop Essentials: $4.00 per device or $7.20 per user
  • UEM Essentials: $5.25 per device or $9.45 per user
  • Enterprise Edition: $10.00 per device or $15.00 per user (adds Omnissa Intelligence analytics and Horizon virtual apps)
  • Platinum Edition: $15.63 per device or $24.71 per user

See Workspace ONE, Workspace ONE pricing and Intune vs Workspace ONE.

4. Ivanti Neurons for UEM: best for UEM with automation

Ivanti’s UEM covers iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux and IoT devices, from provisioning and enrollment through app management and patching to secure retirement, with AI-driven automation for self-healing. Ivanti does not publish prices; its product pages send buyers to sales. It suits enterprises that want UEM, patching and service management from one vendor. See Ivanti’s UEM profile.

5. NinjaOne: best for endpoint management plus RMM

NinjaOne sells endpoint management, RMM, patching, remote access, backup, MDM and documentation as modules on one agent, priced per device. Its published range is $1.50 per device per month at 10,000 endpoints up to $3.75 at 50 or fewer; the exact rate is quoted. Support and onboarding are free, and there is a 14-day trial. It suits internal IT teams that want RMM-style automation with endpoint policy. Details in our NinjaOne pricing guide; see also the NinjaOne Endpoint Management profile.

6. Kaseya VSA: best for MSPs on the Kaseya stack

Kaseya VSA manages endpoints including mobile, IoT and virtual machines, with automated patching, mobile device management and business intelligence reporting. Kaseya also bundles it into Kaseya 365 Endpoint, licensed per endpoint. Both are quote-based. See Kaseya VSA and Kaseya 365.

7. HCL BigFix: best for very large, heterogeneous estates

BigFix says it supports more than 165 million endpoints across roughly 120 operating systems with a single agent and console, and it was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Management Tools, according to HCL. Pricing is quote-based; its Workspace+ offering is licensed by managed client devices. There is a 30-day free trial, and BigFix SaaS Remediate targets mid-market teams. See HCL BigFix and BigFix pricing.

8. Tanium: best for real-time visibility at scale

Tanium positions its platform as autonomous endpoint management: real-time endpoint data used to drive patching, vulnerability remediation and configuration changes. It targets large enterprises and publishes no prices; its pricing URL returns a not-found page, and buyers go through sales.

9. Hexnode UEM: best budget cross-platform UEM

Hexnode prices per device with a 15-license minimum on its cloud plans. On annual billing the Pro plan costs $2.20 per device per month, Enterprise $3.20 and Ultimate $4.70; Ultra is quote-based and adds macOS and Windows patching. There is a free trial. Hexnode suits small and mid-size organisations that want one console for phones, tablets and laptops without enterprise pricing. See Hexnode UEM and Hexnode pricing.

10. Jamf: best for Apple-only fleets

Jamf publishes business pricing of $12.50 per Mac per month for Jamf for Mac and $5.75 per mobile device per month for Jamf for Mobile, billed annually with a 25-device minimum. Jamf Now, for small businesses, starts at $4 per device per month. Jamf is the deepest Apple option; pair it with another tool if you also run Windows. See Jamf Pro and our MDM software guide for other Apple tools.

How Much Does Endpoint Management Software Cost?

Published September 2026 prices range from about $2 to $16 per device per month for dedicated UEM, and $8 per user per month for Intune Plan 1. Three things drive the real bill:

  • Per user or per device. Intune and Workspace ONE can license per user, which is cheaper when each person carries a laptop, a phone and a tablet. Per-device pricing is cheaper when devices are shared.
  • What you already own. Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 already includes Intune Plan 1, and from July 2026 more of the Intune Suite.
  • Minimums and editions. Hexnode requires 15 licenses and Jamf 25; ManageEngine sells in bundles of endpoints with technician seats; enterprise tools quote by edition.

As a worked example, 200 devices on Workspace ONE UEM Essentials cost $1,050 a month, on Hexnode Pro $440 a month, and 200 users on standalone Intune Plan 1 $1,600 a month (or nothing extra if they already hold Microsoft 365 E3). These are our own calculations from list prices.

Is Endpoint Management the Same as Endpoint Security or EDR?

No. Endpoint management keeps devices configured and patched; endpoint security (antivirus, EDR, XDR) detects and responds to threats on them. They work together: a UEM enforces encryption and patch levels, and an EDR watches for attacks. Some vendors sell both, such as ManageEngine’s EDR add-on for Endpoint Central and Microsoft’s pairing of Intune with Defender. For the security side, see our guides to endpoint protection software and XDR vs EDR.

How to Choose Endpoint Management Software

  1. Start with what you license. If you are on Microsoft 365 E3 or E5, evaluate Intune first and only buy a second tool for a proven gap.
  2. Map your device mix. Apple-only points to Jamf; Windows-heavy to Endpoint Central or Intune; very mixed or rugged fleets to Workspace ONE, Ivanti or BigFix.
  3. Decide who operates it. A lean team that also fixes devices day to day may get more from an RMM with endpoint features, such as NinjaOne.
  4. Price per user and per device at your real ratio of devices to people.
  5. Check patching depth. Third-party app coverage varies widely; our patch management software guide compares it.

Endpoint Management Software FAQ

What is endpoint management software?

Software that lets IT enroll, configure, update, secure, monitor and retire every work device (computers, servers, phones, tablets) from one console.

What are unified endpoint management tools?

UEM tools manage all device types under one policy engine. Well-known examples are Microsoft Intune, Omnissa Workspace ONE, ManageEngine Endpoint Central, Ivanti Neurons for UEM, HCL BigFix and Hexnode UEM.

Is UEM the same as MDM?

No. MDM grew up managing phones and tablets. UEM extends the same idea to laptops, desktops, servers and special-purpose devices, adding things like OS patching and desktop app deployment. Most modern MDM vendors now sell UEM editions.

Is Intune an RMM tool?

Not in the MSP sense. Intune is a UEM focused on policy, compliance, apps and updates. It lacks the alerting, scripting-led remediation, network monitoring and multi-client billing that RMM tools such as NinjaOne or Atera provide, although add-ons like Remote Help cover some RMM-style tasks.

Is there free endpoint management software?

A few options exist. Level’s RMM is free for the first 10 devices and Action1 patches up to 200 endpoints free. Full UEM suites are paid, although Intune Plan 1 comes at no extra cost if you already hold Microsoft 365 E3 or E5.

What happened to VMware Workspace ONE?

It moved with VMware’s End-User Computing business to Omnissa, which became independent in 2024 after KKR bought it from Broadcom. The product is now Omnissa Workspace ONE, with published per-device and per-user pricing.

How much does unified endpoint management cost?

List prices checked in September 2026 run from $2.20 per device per month (Hexnode Pro, annual) through $5.25 (Workspace ONE UEM Essentials) to $15.63 (Workspace ONE Platinum), with Intune at $8 per user. Enterprise tools such as Ivanti, Tanium and BigFix quote on request.
