Who gets the most from AI Agent Integration Platforms

  • 1Product engineers adding agent features to a SaaS application, who need their customers to connect their own accounts without the engineering team storing passwords
  • 2Platform teams running an internal agent fleet that has to reach the company systems, where one shared key for every agent has already been rejected in review
  • 3Security and identity owners deciding what an agent may touch, who want the permission enforced by the runtime and the action written to an audit record
How to choose AI Agent Integration Platforms

Start with who the agent is acting as. If the agent works on behalf of your end customers inside their own accounts, you need per-user authorisation and a token store, and you should filter for it first; Nango, Composio, Pipedream, Arcade, Scalekit and Zuplo all publish how they hold and refresh a user grant. If instead the agent is a background service calling systems you own, agent identity is the better fit, and Aembit, Keycard and Pomerium issue each agent short-lived access under a policy you write. Next count the applications you actually need. Published catalogues range from several hundred connectors to more than a thousand, and one missing application can cost more engineering time than the rest of the platform saves. Check the list by name before you check the price. Then decide where the credential may live. If the connected accounts hold regulated data, filter for self-hosting and read the deployment notes; Nango, Membrane, Pomerium, Obot and Scalekit all document running inside your own infrastructure. Finally, model the bill at the call volume you expect in month 6, not month 1. A per-connection rate is cheap while you have 50 customers and expensive at 5,000, and a per-agent seat works the other way round. The rate card is the only place that difference shows up.

What buyers evaluate in AI Agent Integration Platforms
Whether the agent acts as the person who connected the account or as one shared service identity, because that single choice decides whether an action can be traced back to a human and whether the agent can reach more than that human could
How many applications arrive ready to use. A catalogue of several thousand pre-built actions against named products is a very different purchase from a platform where you write each connector yourself
Where the third-party credential lives. Some platforms keep it encrypted on their side and never hand it to the agent; others pass the access token through, which puts the token inside your prompt history
Whether permissions are enforced at the gateway or only described in the prompt. A policy the runtime checks before each call holds when the model misreads an instruction
What the audit record contains. Being able to answer which person, which agent, which application and which action, for a call that happened last Tuesday, is what a security review asks for
Support for the Model Context Protocol, both as a server the agent connects to and as a client that reaches the MCP servers you already run
The billing unit, because a per-connection rate, a per-agent seat, a per-1,000-call rate and a flat monthly plan reach very different totals at the same volume
Whether the platform can run inside your own network, which is often the deciding question when the connected accounts hold regulated data
