PRTG Pricing 2026: Every Plan, Sensor Costs and Enterprise Tiers

Quick answer: Paessler PRTG Network Monitor is now sold only as an annual subscription priced by sensor count. PRTG 500 costs $200 per month paid annually (about $2,400 a year), and the ladder runs up to PRTG 10000 at $1,642 per month. PRTG Enterprise Monitor starts at $1,671 per month for 10,000 sensors, PRTG Hosted Monitor (the cloud version) runs from $2,399 to $19,699 a year, and the free edition still covers 100 sensors. All prices below are vendor-published, checked September 2026, shown in USD and net of VAT.

PRTG pricing used to be simple: you bought a perpetual license once and paid for maintenance if you wanted updates. That changed on July 1, 2024, when Paessler moved PRTG Network Monitor to subscription licensing. If you are budgeting for a new deployment, or your old maintenance contract is coming up for renewal, this guide covers what each tier costs, what a “sensor” really means for your bill, and how to avoid paying for a tier you do not need.

How Much Does PRTG Cost in 2026?

PRTG Network Monitor (the self-hosted edition you install on your own Windows server) has five published tiers. Paessler lists each as a monthly price paid annually, so the yearly figures in the table are simply the monthly price multiplied by 12.

Two details matter more than the headline prices. First, the unit discount is steep: a sensor on PRTG 10000 costs well under half of what it costs on PRTG 500. Second, Paessler says PRTG “only accepts one license key per server”, so you cannot stack two PRTG 500 keys to reach 1,000 sensors. When you outgrow a tier, you upgrade to the next one.

How Does PRTG Pricing Work? Sensors, Not Devices

PRTG charges by sensor. Paessler defines one sensor as “one aspect that you can monitor on a device”, such as the CPU load of a server, the traffic on one switch port, a specific URL or a ping check. A single switch with 48 monitored ports therefore consumes far more than one sensor.

Paessler’s own guidance is that you usually need about 5 to 10 sensors per device for full coverage, and its device estimates in the pricing table assume roughly 10. That is where most budgets go wrong. A team that plans on “about 100 devices” and accepts every sensor the auto-discovery suggests can land well above 1,000 sensors and be pushed from PRTG 1000 ($4,296 a year) to PRTG 2500 ($8,904 a year).

What is included with every PRTG license

• All sensor types and features: PRTG ships with more than 250 preconfigured sensor types, and paid tiers differ only by sensor count.
• Unlimited remote probes: “Every PRTG license includes an unlimited number of so-called remote probes”, which run as a Windows service at remote sites.
• One failover cluster: one master node and one failover node, available on all licenses including the free edition.
• Updates and email support for as long as the subscription is active.

What Does PRTG Cost for a Typical Network?

Here are three worked examples using Paessler’s published prices and its 5 to 10 sensors per device guidance. They are estimates for planning, not quotes.

The middle row shows why sensor discipline is worth an afternoon. The difference between the two tiers is $4,608 a year for the same 150 devices.

PRTG Enterprise Monitor Pricing

PRTG Enterprise Monitor is Paessler’s edition for organizations monitoring more than 1,000 devices or 10,000 sensors. Paessler states that the “subscription starts at $1,671 per month for 10,000 sensors, paid annually”, which works out to $20,052 a year. Larger sizes (Paessler mentions 50,000 and 200,000 sensors as examples) are quoted individually.

The Enterprise model differs from the standard tiers in three ways:

• Unlimited servers: one subscription covers “an unlimited number of servers”, which suits organizations that run several PRTG cores for different regions or business units.
• Overage instead of a hard cap: if you go past your sensor limit, you “pay the yearly average of what you have been using above your sensor limit”, so you are not forced into an immediate upgrade.
• Extras included: PRTG MultiBoard (a single view across multiple PRTG servers) and PRTG SLA Reporter come at no extra cost.

At exactly 10,000 sensors, Enterprise costs $29 a month more than PRTG 10000. The extra buys you multi-server licensing and the overage model, so it only pays off if you run more than one core server or expect to grow past 10,000 sensors. Paessler offers Enterprise trials for test labs on request, with no published trial length.

PRTG Hosted Monitor (Cloud) Pricing

If you do not want to run a Windows server yourself, PRTG Hosted Monitor is the Paessler-hosted version. It is priced per year:

The license fees are essentially identical, so the real difference is the cost of the server, Windows license and admin time you avoid with the hosted version. Hosted Monitor offers a free 10-day trial and annual or multi-year terms, and Paessler says you can scale up or down at any time. You will still need remote probes inside your network to reach devices that are not exposed to the internet.

Is There Still a Free Version of PRTG?

Yes. The PRTG Freeware Edition “includes up to 100 sensors for about 10 devices”, and Paessler’s license manual says it is “free for personal and commercial use”. There are two ways in:

• 30-day trial: full access with no sensor or device limit and no credit card required.
• Freeware: after 30 days, the trial automatically reverts to the 100-sensor freeware edition.

A hundred sensors is enough for a home lab, a very small office, or a proof of concept on a handful of core devices. It is not enough for a real business network, where a firewall and two managed switches can use most of it.

Can You Still Buy a Perpetual PRTG License?

No. Paessler’s help desk states that PRTG Network Monitor “moved to a subscription-based licensing model as of July 1st 2024” and that “perpetual licenses with maintenance renewal are no longer available for purchase”. Existing perpetual license holders can keep running their licenses while maintenance is active, run them alongside a subscription, or merge them into a subscription license.

Paessler has not published a figure for how much renewals increased. Third-party reports give a sense of scale: The Register reported in July 2024 that a one-year maintenance extension for the unlimited PRTG XL1 license had been €3,900, while the replacement subscription was €8,800. A Paessler reseller also announced Enterprise Monitor price increases for new purchases and renewals from March 1, 2025. Treat both as reported examples, not Paessler list prices. If a subscription is cancelled, Paessler’s FAQ notes you lose access to the installation once the subscription period ends.

Does PRTG Run On-Premises or in the Cloud?

Both. PRTG Network Monitor is self-hosted: the core server runs on Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025, or on Windows 10 or 11, according to Paessler’s system requirements. PRTG Hosted Monitor is the cloud option run by Paessler. There is no Linux build of the core server, which matters if your team standardizes on Linux; in that case, compare open-source options such as Zabbix or Checkmk.

PRTG Pricing vs Alternatives

How to Choose the Right PRTG Plan

1. Run the 30-day trial on your real network. The trial has no sensor limit, so the count at the end of it is the most honest sizing number you will get.
2. Prune auto-discovered sensors. Pause sensors on unused switch ports and duplicate checks before you pick a tier. Moving from 10 to 6 sensors per device can drop you a tier.
3. Leave about 20% headroom. Because you cannot stack keys, running at 98% of a tier means an upgrade the moment you add a site.
4. Price hosted against your server costs. License fees match, so choose Hosted Monitor if running a Windows server is the harder part for your team.
5. Consider Enterprise only above one core server or 10,000 sensors. Below that, the standard tiers are cheaper.
