After 3 years, disappointed by its limited range of vocabulary

The paid for version is better and allows several members in one plan (I believe the free version places places barriers to learning and unfairly discriminates against those who cannot afford to pay). There are some helpful discussions and answers to questions as well as exercises. But I find the range of alternative words or vocabulary disappointing, and it has a tendency to repeat words. I have had to explore other resources, in addition to Duolingo. For example, watching YouTube videos ...

It's all Greek to me!

I've previously learned French and Spanish and have been more than happy but not so the Greek I'm trying to learn now. There are no speaking exercises as there were in the previous languages which I found very useful and the words I have to learn, well .... I'm not sure how often I'm going to need to say 'throne', 'gorilla' and 'skeleton' when I'm on my holidays. These words are in the very early stages, not the advanced!

I really like Duolingo when it’s…

I really like Duolingo when it’s working. Been using it for years. Recently there has been several problems (not getting points when completing lessons, having to yell into my device in the speaking exercises, someone else’s picture on my account) and course you can never speak, text or email a representative. I don’t want to stop using it but what’s the use when it’s so frustrating. Makes trying to learn a language really annoying.

Great learning app for languages, but why are so many people critisizing it?

Duolingo is the best language-learning app I've ever used. It's effective and I can learn a lot from it. The daily practice reminders can be kind of annoying sometimes, but they make you learn, so the result is still good for you. But then sometimes the streak can feel like a burden, which is the main reason why I gave it 4 stars only. Anyways, if you find the leaderboard of Duolingo stressful, there's always a turn-off option. (Go to settings and make your account private)

Decent app but buggy

Decent app but buggy A good additional tool to help with language development but not enough on its own. Since recent update XP score not registering regularly despite having a paid subscription

Have used it for two years

Have used it for two years, but recently there was a serious glitch which meant I could not complete a lesson. Reported “a bug” online, but there is no way to get help from them directly, which is seriously disappointing. However, after complaining on this forum, and sending them more notices of the issue, things have been resolved.

Update on my previous review

I recently wrote a review for Duolingo Spanish. Since I noticed that people seem to be reading it, I 'd like to update it. I am a 76-year-old man. My retention is not as good as it used to be. However, I am surprised that I can still remember a lot. I just finished section 7. Even though I can't speak Spanish, I can understand just about anything my handyman is texting me. Given that he does not speak a word of English, this is an accomplishment. Sometimes, I don't understand the words he ...

Teach Language and leave woke politics out

I like the app as a tool to learn the language, but I tremendously dislike the political context and progressive posturing. It turns off at least a good number of people. They should stick to teaching the languages in their pure original form and leave the woke dog doo doo out of it.
