What is Function Calling?
What does 'Function Calling' mean?
A language model is given descriptions of the functions or tools available to it and, when a request needs one, returns a structured call naming the function and its arguments instead of plain prose. The application executes that call and feeds the result back to the model. This is the mechanism behind assistants that can query a database, fetch live data or take actions in other systems.
