What does 'Facility Management' mean?
Facilities management is concerned with the management and upkeep of various operations that ensure the safety, productivity, and efficiency of a building's occupants. Facilities management includes anything from groundskeeping and security measures to cleaning and maintaining HVAC systems. Some of the activities included in facility management are Asset management and monitoring, equipment and maintenance services, project planning, health & security management, environmental services, and catering and hospitality. The tasks involved in successful facilities management (FM) can be divided into two categories: hard FM services and soft FM services. The former is concerned with physical assets such as plumbing and electricity, while the latter is concerned with processes that improve the workplace, such as security and custodial services.
