Who gets the most from AI Agent Observability
- 1Platform and backend engineers who shipped an agent and now need to explain a run they cannot reproduce from application logs
- 2AI engineers deciding whether a prompt, model or action change improved the agent, who want a measured answer rather than a few manual checks
- 3Site reliability and observability owners folding agent traces into the backend they already run, where OpenTelemetry support decides the work involved
How to choose AI Agent Observability
Start with what you are trying to see. If the open question is "what did the agent do on run 4,812", you want an agent-native trace: AgentOps, Laminar, Judgment, HoneyHive and Opik all record every step and let you replay it. If the open question is "will this change make the agent worse", you want simulation instead, and Okareo, Coval, Scorecard, LangWatch and Maxim all run scripted scenarios at an agent and score what comes back. Next decide where agent traces have to live. Teams that already run Datadog or send OpenTelemetry spans to one backend usually gain more from attaching agent traces to the stack they already watch than from a second window; Datadog Agent Observability and Pydantic Logfire are built for exactly that. Teams with no existing backend are freer to pick on the agent features alone. Then check data residency early. Laminar, OpenLIT and Future AGI publish an Apache 2.0 build you can run yourself, which matters because a trace holds the full text of everything the agent read and wrote. Finally, model the bill on your real run volume rather than the headline price. A free tier capped at 40,000 spans a month, a 30 dollar plan with 3 gigabytes included, and a 199 dollar plan with 125 simulations are three different ceilings, and the one you hit first is the number that decides the cost.

Judgment Labs
Tracing and scoring built for long-horizon agent runs
Best for: SMB teams · Mid-market · Enterprise
Add to compare
What is Judgment Labs?
Judgment is built for agents whose runs are long rather than short, where a single task can span hundreds of steps and the stored trace runs to a very large amount of text. Storage and indexing are shaped around that, so a billion tokens of agent data stay searchable. Background agents read the ...

Pydantic Logfire
Agent traces and application traces in one OpenTelemetry backend
Best for: SMB teams · Mid-market · Enterprise
Add to compare
What is Pydantic Logfire?
Pydantic Logfire records agent runs as OpenTelemetry spans and keeps them beside the traces from the rest of the application, so an agent step and the database query it triggered sit in the same timeline. It reads instrumentation from 26 or more agent frameworks, and because the query language ...

What is AgentOps?
AgentOps records what an agent did on every run and lets an engineer rewind through it afterwards. Each model call, each action the agent took and each handoff between agents is captured as an event with its input, its output and its cost, so a run that went wrong can be opened and read back in ...
