ChatGPT Enterprise Pricing 2026: Costs, Plans and What You Get

The short answer: OpenAI does not publish a price for ChatGPT Enterprise. You get a quote from its sales team, and the contract sets your seat types, seat fees and how usage beyond the included limits is billed (workspace credits or, on eligible agreements, token-based billing in US dollars). The closest published number is ChatGPT Business, the self-serve team plan: according to OpenAI’s help center, a Standard seat costs $20 per user per month on an annual plan or $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat with five times the usage costs $100 per user per month annually or $125 monthly, with a two-seat minimum. Most companies use Business as the price floor and negotiate Enterprise when they need SCIM, a compliance API, invoicing, custom retention, a BAA or support SLAs.

This guide is for IT, procurement and operations leaders comparing ChatGPT plans for a team of 20 or more. It explains how each plan is billed, what Enterprise adds for the money, the limits buyers run into, and a simple formula for estimating your annual cost before the first sales call. Prices below are the ones OpenAI publishes in its help center at the time of writing; always check current pricing before you budget.

Two things apply to every plan above. First, none of them include API usage: the ChatGPT workspace and the OpenAI API Platform are separate products with separate billing and separate membership. Second, OpenAI says it does not train its models on business data from these plans by default.

How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost per user?

There is no list price. OpenAI’s help center tells organizations to contact sales, pick ChatGPT Enterprise as the product of interest, and work with a representative on the right setup. What you will be quoted depends on a few variables the help center describes:

• Seat types in your agreement. On credit-based Enterprise agreements, OpenAI describes two seat types: standard ChatGPT seats, which include ChatGPT plus features such as GPTs, Projects, Apps, Company Knowledge, ChatGPT Agent, Deep Research and Codex; and Codex seats, which give Codex-only access and carry no fixed per-user monthly cost, because usage is paid from workspace credits.
• How usage beyond the included limits is paid for. Standard seats include baseline access. Extra usage can be bought as workspace credits under OpenAI’s flexible pricing, or, on eligible agreements (including ChatGPT for Financial Services), charged through token-based billing in US dollars.
• Volume and term. As with most enterprise software, seat count, contract length and the support tier you choose all shape the final number.

A practical way to set expectations: the self-serve Business Standard seat at $20 to $25 per user per month is the public reference point. Enterprise adds controls, support and contract terms on top of that, so plan for a per-seat figure you negotiate, plus a separate line for credits if your teams will use Codex or agentic features heavily.

How does ChatGPT Enterprise pricing work?

Think of an Enterprise bill as three layers:

1. Seat fees. A per-user fee for standard ChatGPT seats, set in your agreement. Workspace owners and admins assign seat types; users cannot change their own.
2. Consumption. Workspace credits for usage beyond included limits, and credits for Codex-only seats. OpenAI updated its Codex rate card in April 2026 to token-based usage pricing billed in credits per million tokens, and the help center says the new credit-based Codex pricing applies to Enterprise, Edu, Teachers and Healthcare plans that use credit-based billing.
3. Optional services. Premium support with faster responses and a dedicated contact, and hands-on deployment help. OpenAI’s Enterprise page says eligible customers get implementation, training and change-management support, and that AI advisors are available for select customers rolling ChatGPT out organization-wide.

The consequence for budgeting: a pure per-seat mental model underestimates cost for engineering-heavy or agent-heavy teams. Ask sales for the rate card that applies to your agreement and for the admin controls that cap credit spend.

ChatGPT Business pricing: the published numbers

ChatGPT Business is the plan OpenAI used to call ChatGPT Team; the help center says it was renamed on August 29, 2025. The plan is built around two seat types you can mix in one workspace:

Other terms worth knowing before you sign up: a Business workspace needs at least two paid seats (two of either type, or one of each); seats are capacity that owners assign and reassign to members; pricing can vary by country and currency; and credits can extend usage beyond the included limits. OpenAI also states that if you need invoice billing, purchase orders, bank transfer, ACH, net terms, split payments, Zero Data Retention or a Business Associate Agreement, you should use a contracted offering, not self-serve Business. For many mid-market companies, that sentence is the real trigger for moving to Enterprise.

Is ChatGPT Enterprise better than Business?

Enterprise is not “better AI”. Both plans give access to OpenAI’s frontier models. The differences are in control, contracts and support:

If your security team needs SCIM deprovisioning, an audit API feeding your SIEM or eDiscovery tool, or a signed BAA, Business will not get you there. If you are a 15-person team that mainly wants a shared workspace, Business is the cheaper and faster route.

What is the difference between ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise?

Plus is an individual subscription: one person, one account, personal billing, no admin console. Team is the old name for Business, the self-serve workspace for groups. Enterprise is the managed, contract-based workspace for the whole organization. When an employee with a personal paid plan joins an Enterprise workspace using the same account, OpenAI’s help center says the individual subscription is cancelled automatically with a partial refund. If your organization requires it, members also merge their personal workspace into the company workspace, and that merge is permanent.

What are the limitations of ChatGPT Enterprise?

• No API included. Enterprise workspace membership does not give anyone access to your company’s API Platform organization. If you are building internal apps, budget for the API separately.
• Usage still has limits. Seats include baseline access; heavier use of Codex, agents or deep research runs on credits. Ask for the model and usage limits page that applies to your contract.
• Retention trade-offs. OpenAI notes that shorter retention periods can degrade features such as conversation history.
• Personal workspace merges are one-way. Decide your merge policy before inviting staff.
• Data residency is a contract question. If you must keep data in a specific region, raise it with sales early; do not assume it from the plan name.

How do I get ChatGPT Enterprise?

1. Contact OpenAI sales and choose ChatGPT Enterprise as the product.
2. Bring your seat count by department, expected heavy users, and whether engineers need Codex.
3. Share your security requirements up front: SSO provider, SCIM, retention period, audit needs, DPA, BAA if relevant.
4. Ask for a pilot or phased rollout plan with adoption analytics, so you can prove usage before expanding seats.

If your company already has Enterprise, employees get access from their workspace owner, admin or IT team, usually through the identity provider.

How to estimate your ChatGPT cost

Use this before you talk to sales, then replace the placeholders with quoted numbers:

Annual cost = (Standard seats x seat price x 12) + (Premium or heavy-use seats x their price x 12) + expected credit spend + support add-ons

Worked with published Business prices only, for a hypothetical 50-person team on annual billing:

• 45 Standard seats x $20 x 12 = $10,800
• 5 Premium seats x $100 x 12 = $6,000
• Seat total = $16,800 per year, before any credits

For Enterprise, keep the same structure but use your quoted seat price, and add a credit budget sized from a pilot. Track three numbers during the pilot: weekly active users as a share of seats, credit burn per heavy user, and the tasks that consume the most credits. Those three numbers are what you negotiate with.

Enterprise requirements checklist

• Identity: SAML SSO and SCIM provisioning; role-based access to tools, apps and agents.
• Data use: OpenAI’s enterprise privacy page says business data is not used for training by default, and that you own your inputs and outputs where the law allows. Quote that page in your security review and confirm it covers every product you buy.
• Audit: Compliance API access for conversations and agent activity, and where the logs will land in your stack.
• Retention and deletion: the retention period your policy requires, and the 30-day removal of deleted conversations.
• Certifications: SOC 2 Type 2 per OpenAI; request reports through its Trust Portal.
• Contracts: DPA for GDPR, BAA for health data, Zero Data Retention if you need it.
• Connectors: which internal apps admins will allow; OpenAI says ChatGPT respects existing permissions and each user authenticates to a connected app.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth it for work?

Pro is an individual plan aimed at people who want maximum usage and early features. At the time of writing, OpenAI’s help center showed a notice that new sign-ups and upgrades to the $200 Pro plan were temporarily paused. For a company, the more relevant option is the Business Premium seat, which gives a named employee much higher limits inside a managed workspace with company billing and admin controls.

How to choose

• Under about 20 users, no compliance asks: start on Business Standard, add Premium seats only for measured heavy users.
• You need invoicing, a BAA, SCIM or audit APIs: go straight to Enterprise; Business cannot meet those requirements.
• Your company lives in Microsoft 365: price Microsoft 365 Copilot alongside, because it works inside Outlook, Teams and Office files you already license.
• Engineering is a big share of users: ask how Codex seats and credits are priced for your agreement; that line can outgrow seat fees.
