The short answer: Acumatica is often the better fit for mid-sized companies that want many users in the ERP without per-user fees, need an industry edition such as construction, distribution or manufacturing, and want a choice of hosting. NetSuite is often the better fit for fast-growing companies that want a single vendor-run SaaS with mature multi-subsidiary finance, a large ecosystem and auditors and hires who already know the system. Both are true cloud ERPs sold with partners, and both quote their pricing.
Below we compare Acumatica and NetSuite on pricing model, deployment, finance, industry editions, construction, customisation, integrations, security and implementation, with a decision table at the end. We do not quote prices; both vendors are linked so you can check current pricing.

Reviews and feature details on Spotsaas: Acumatica and NetSuite.
Is Acumatica better than NetSuite?
Acumatica is better for companies whose cost model breaks under per-user licensing: field crews, warehouse staff, project managers and occasional approvers can all have access without buying a licence each. Its industry editions, especially construction and distribution, give a lot out of the box, and the option to run it outside Acumatica’s cloud suits companies with specific hosting requirements.
NetSuite is better for companies that want the most established cloud ERP brand, a single vendor-run environment, and OneWorld’s mature handling of many subsidiaries in many countries. Venture-backed and acquisitive companies often choose it because finance talent, auditors and add-on vendors already know it.
Pricing model: resource-based vs per-user
This is the biggest structural difference. Acumatica prices by the applications you license and the level of computing resources or transaction volume your business needs, with users generally not counted. NetSuite charges a base licence, then per-user licences, then modules such as OneWorld, advanced financials or WMS.
What that means in practice:
- With many light users (approvals, time entry, field service, warehouse), Acumatica’s model tends to cost less as headcount grows.
- With few users and high transaction volumes, the gap narrows or reverses, because volume drives Acumatica’s resource level.
- Both require implementation by a partner or the vendor’s services team, which is often a large part of year-one cost.

Deployment and upgrades
NetSuite is cloud-only; Oracle runs the infrastructure and applies two releases a year to every account. That removes infrastructure work but also removes hosting choice.
Acumatica is cloud-native but offers more options: SaaS hosted by Acumatica, a private cloud or on-premise deployment under licence. It also releases twice a year, with upgrade timing typically coordinated with your partner. Companies with data residency rules or existing infrastructure contracts sometimes pick Acumatica for this reason alone.
Finance and multi-entity
Both provide general ledger, AP, AR, cash management, fixed assets, multi-currency, budgeting and consolidation. NetSuite’s OneWorld is the more proven option for groups with many subsidiaries across countries, local tax and statutory needs. Acumatica handles multi-company and multi-branch structures with intercompany accounting and consolidation well for mid-sized groups. Acumatica vs NetSuite for construction
Construction is where the two differ most. Acumatica offers a Construction Edition that covers job costing, project accounting, change orders, subcontracts, compliance documents, AIA-style progress billing and a field-friendly mobile experience, all combined with its unlimited-user model so field staff and project managers can work in the system.
NetSuite supports project-based businesses with project accounting and job costing, and contractors often extend it with construction-specific partner apps from the SuiteApp marketplace. It is a strong choice when a construction firm also has multi-entity finance complexity or wants the NetSuite ecosystem, but expect more add-ons for construction-specific workflows. Ask both vendors to run a change order, a subcontractor pay application with retainage and a progress bill in the demo.
Distribution, manufacturing and commerce
Both cover inventory, order management, purchasing, warehouse management and manufacturing through modules or editions. Acumatica’s distribution and manufacturing editions are strong for mid-market wholesalers and discrete or process manufacturers that need MRP, estimating and production management. NetSuite covers inventory and manufacturing well for growing companies and is especially common in ecommerce and omnichannel businesses, with SuiteCommerce and a large connector market. For more production-focused options, see the best manufacturing ERP software.
Customisation, integrations and security
Acumatica is built on its own application platform. Admins create generic inquiries (reports and data views), dashboards and workflows without code, and developers build customisation projects in C# on .NET. APIs are REST (contract-based) and OData.
NetSuite offers SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, saved searches, SuiteAnalytics and SuiteTalk web services, plus the SuiteApp marketplace with a large number of third-party apps. Both support role-based security, two-factor authentication, SAML single sign-on and audit trails. On a self-hosted Acumatica, you own server security and patching.
Mobile and field use
If staff work away from a desk, test mobile early. Acumatica offers a mobile app that exposes screens such as time entry, expense receipts, approvals, service orders and construction daily logs, and because users are not licensed individually, it is practical to give every field worker access. NetSuite also offers a mobile app for approvals, time, expenses, dashboards and warehouse tasks (with WMS), but every person who logs in needs a licence, so companies often limit access to supervisors and use other tools for crews.
Ecosystem, talent and long-term fit
NetSuite has one of the largest ecosystems in cloud ERP: many implementation partners, many SuiteApps and connectors, and a large pool of accountants, admins and developers who list NetSuite experience. That lowers hiring risk and makes it easier to add capabilities later. Acumatica’s ecosystem is smaller but focused, with partners concentrated in its industry editions and a marketplace of add-on solutions. If you are in construction, distribution or field service, the right Acumatica partner can bring deeper industry knowledge than a generalist. If you expect to add businesses in different industries, NetSuite’s breadth is an advantage.
Reporting and analytics
Both give finance and operations teams self-service reporting without exporting to spreadsheets. Acumatica uses generic inquiries (configurable data views that can become dashboards, reports or API endpoints), a report designer and financial report writer, and Acumatica data can be analysed in external BI tools through OData. NetSuite uses saved searches, SuiteAnalytics workbooks, a financial report builder and role-based dashboards, with SuiteAnalytics Connect available for BI tools. In demos, ask each to build a report your leadership already uses, live, and time how long it takes.
Moving from QuickBooks, Sage or an older ERP
Most Acumatica and NetSuite buyers are replacing entry-level accounting software or an ageing on-premise ERP. Whichever you pick, plan for:
- Chart of accounts redesign. Use the new system’s dimensions (subsidiaries or branches, departments, classes or subaccounts, projects) instead of copying a long flat account list.
- Opening balances and open transactions migrated cleanly, with history kept in the old system or a data archive for audit.
- Item and customer master clean-up before migration, especially units of measure and pricing.
- Integration inventory: ecommerce, payroll, banking, shipping, CRM and any construction or field tools, with a supported connector confirmed for each.
Implementation and partners
Acumatica is sold and implemented through partners, so partner selection is critical: ask for references in your industry and edition, and for a named project team. NetSuite can be bought and implemented directly or through partners, often starting from a SuiteSuccess industry configuration. For both, the main risks are data migration, integrations and over-customisation. See the ERP implementation guide and the ERP selection guide for a scoring template.

Does Acumatica really offer unlimited users?
Acumatica’s pricing is based on applications and resource level, not named users, so adding users does not add licence fees. Your resource tier still depends on transaction volume, so ask how growth moves you between tiers.
Which is better for construction companies?
Acumatica, for most mid-sized contractors, because its Construction Edition covers job costing, change orders, subcontracts and progress billing natively. NetSuite relies more on partner apps for construction workflows.
Can Acumatica be hosted on-premise?
- Yes. Acumatica can run as vendor-hosted SaaS, in a private cloud or on-premise.
- NetSuite is available only as Oracle-run SaaS.
Which handles multiple subsidiaries better?
NetSuite OneWorld is the more mature option for many subsidiaries across countries with local tax and consolidation. Acumatica handles multi-company groups well at mid-market scale.
Can I buy Acumatica directly?
