Sort out the minor stuff, which makes it annoying to use.

Xero is let down by its hatred of supplier credit notes. You can't just include a load of credit notes with a payment. You have to go through each one and allocate it to an invoice. The remittance the supplier gets does not mention the credit notes at all, so it looks like you have just underpaid a load of invoices. You then get queries from the supplier and have to write out the remittance manually outside of Xero. The email-to-bills feature doesn't support credit notes either, so you have ...

incredibly expensive for the use I get out of it, I was previously using spreadsheets which were fine for what I needed but my accountant said we needed to switch to an online system. I'm paying £33/month- £396 per year and the costs keep going up. I probably do about 4-5 invoices/month. Would probably be beneficial to companies that have more paperwork but if you are a small business like me that does larger one-off invoices I would stick to excel.

Xero is very good and has enabled us to link and integrate work flows into Xero which is very useful. Their support has not been very good or helpful in the past. It is pity there is a lack of training to get up and running with Xero and understand certain things, especially considering it will be a totally new system for a lot of people who are used to using different accounts packages.

Xero to Hero

I have used it for sometime now. A couple of years I believe. My bookkeeper does most of the work to be fair and she is a Xero expert and I would recommend her if you need a professional to do your book keeping. Having said that I find it easy enough to add contracts and add payments etc.Has more functionality than I will ever need or understand. Obviously a good product. My accountant uses it to prepare tax returns etc with a lot of the work already done ! Vat and Paye returns etc etc ...

Good support but ...

Good support but rather full of 'accountancy speak' for the layman who is using Xero for their day-to-day bookkeeping and does not understand the terminology. The Dashboard screen gives an excellent overview of the current situation. When a 'Discuss' function is entered in a transaction it would be useful to have an online prompt to make the company's accountant aware that their help is required.

It's an accounts package without the need for any software. It covers the basics and can provide add-ons that allow you to cover areas relevant to you, sometimes in quite some depth. It can expand with yo and your business.

A comprehensive accounts package that's easy to understand and use.We have been using it for a couple of years now and it meets our requirements, my only gripe is the fact that you have to e-mail their support team rather than be able to phone and talk to them.
