"Good hosting for smaller sites"

What do you like best about WP Engine? I think it's very easy to use and simple to setup for most WordPress sites. It's also affordable and has good support. What do you dislike about WP Engine? It's not the best or most heavyweight hosting platform for larger sites, so sites with a lot of traffic may want to consider upgrading to a new host. What problems is WP Engine solving and how is that benefiting you? The only real problem is bandwidth with larger sites. For a smaller site it's an ...

Great hosts, great support, terrible disk space restrictions

I really like WPEngine, but the one (big) issue I have with them is the really tight disk usage restrictions that they put on your account. I pay over £100 a month for 10x websites, and they only allow 20Gb for this which really isn't enough. I've had to store images on one site on Amazon S3, and they still chase me up complaining that I am over their threshold. I could understand if this was a £10 a month service, but for over £100, I expect to not have restrictions as tight as this.

Account closed (and it was surprisingly easy to switch providers)

We had been broadly happy with WPE after we migrated half our online presence to them at the beginning of 2020. The migration and onboarding were straightforward, their support team has always been great, and when we needed to upsize and add an extra layer of security after a few months the process was easy. However, this week we have migrated to a new provider (Cloudways) after some very opaque communications from our account manager. He contacted me a few days ago to say that our site ...

Be very careful about choosing…

Be very careful about choosing WP-Engine. Once the traffic on your site increases, they raise their prices ridiculously. They have their own way of calculating traffic which is widely disparate from data shown in Google Analytics. We're stuck with them as one of our essential plugins can only run with WP-Engine. Probably ok if your site has 1,000 visitors a month or lower but I guess that's how they 'reel' you in...

What problems is WP Engine solving and how is that benefiting you? We have several servers and host hundreds of our client sites on their platform - we have been using them for over 5+ years now and have been overall pleased.

"Unstable web servers going down - taking our website offline."

What do you like best about WP Engine? WP-Engine support responds quickly and I like that there are automatic backups nightly. What do you dislike about WP Engine? Their web servers are unreliable. We use StatusCake to monitor uptime and our site goes down periodically. The worst-case was on April 21st when our website went offline and support was able to get it working again for a short time, but it went offline again. If your public website is an important aspect of your business, this ...
