free version of Duolingo

I can use the free version of Duolingo to adequately learn a new language. I am currently learning Irish and the use of native speakers from the different areas of Ireland is helpful to learn pronounciation. I particularly Duolingo for teaching minority languages such as Irish, Scot’s Gaelic, Welsh and Navajo.

I do have reservations BUT…

I do have criticisms about Duolingo- such as the lack of grammar exercises and the ads. However, after seeing the homophobic criticisms on here, I thought I’d add my 2 cents. Criticisms based around prejudice and homophobia are not valid, and anyone with the most basic critical thinking abilities can clearly separate the gender of nouns from personal identities. Sorry but if you can’t then you’re not fit to learn a new language.

Write reviews about learning

My Spanish seems to be improving gradually. Far too many reviews here about administrative issues. Please write about your learning experience as well.

Judging by so many negative or positive…

Judging by so many negative or positive reviews, my experience is going well. I don't care about what others say. I'm enjoying my learning journey very well. However, as a frontend web developer and due to some knowledge of app development, user experience should be smooth. Overall, in my personal opinion, if users have some complaints about the Duolingo app, it should be improved as soon as possible. That's all.

I've no idea why I see so many negative reviews. As for me, this app is a great tool of learning a new language if you're persistent and try to learn at least one lesson every day. Thanks to it, I've already learned some basics of Arabic!

"Good for language learning"

What do you like best about Duolingo? Easy to use. Lessons are exciting and suitable for learners at every level. What do you dislike about Duolingo? Not at this moment, everything looks pretty good to me. What problems is Duolingo solving and how is that benefiting you? I have no experience in learning a language without a teacher. But Duolingo made it work for me to learn Spanish by myself.

Beter than expected from first impressions

Seven days ago my reaction when encountering Duolingo's new interface after a period away was very negative. It was frustrating not to have any navigation aids to see a concise overview of the topics. I still don't much like the new learning path interface, it is too dumbed down. It might work on the small screen of a phone, but it's a bit juvenile for a serious user on a desktop PC. I also regret the enforced use of the wordbank. It would be nice to have the option of writing answers ...

fantastic app!

I have been using this app for a good few years on and off now and I find it brilliant. Lessons are short and sweet, there are lots of languages to choose from and even having ads on it doesn't bother me because it states "advertising helps duolingos Mission" which for me automatically takes away any annoyance that surfaces. it is s fab and I would highly recommend it for anyone just wanting to get better or start a language... Our 12 year old has just started doing French and is loving it.

This is an underrated app, I've used this for 50 days now and I'm still not bored with it. The learning techniques are memorable and takes a few days to easily learn. One thing I find really unique is the fact that they offer Super Duolingo after learning for a fair amount of days. Overall, great app despite it's other reviews.
