Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Backblaze is an affordable cloud backup service built for individual users and small teams who need automatic, hands-off file protection. The core strength is its unlimited storage capacity at a fixed annual price—no per-gigabyte overage charges. Automatic backups run continuously in the background, and files are encrypted with a private key you control. File ...Read more

Very frustrating

Very frustrating and not something I'm happy to depend on.Periodically backblaze "freeze" your backups. Not all users get notifications of this - as administrator I've had no notifications. The only way to realize there is a problem is to visit the website where it'll tell you backups are frozen, but with no diagnostic information. To recover from this state you have to uninstall their software and re-install it. When I do this, it doesn't let us inherit state from a backup that started life ...

It's doesn't do its job

It's doesn't do its job, it supposed to do the backup in the background automatically but every time I check is days and days behind. When I try to launch the back up manually keep telling me I'm offline (which is not true) or that the service is under maintenance and try later. Can't be trusted to do your backup in the background

Great system! Terrible Customer Support!

What do you like best? I thoroughly enjoyed how easy it was to login and access all that I had uploaded in minutes. What do you dislike? I did not appreciate the customer service from Forrest McDonald, a Support Technician at Backblaze. Before I go further, I take full responsibility for not caring enough to pay attention to the 30 day window that data stays stored on Backblaze. *For example, if you backup an external hard drive (which was the case for me) and then unplug it, ...

Inherit Backup State failure

After using BackBlaze for almost one year my "C" hard drive failed. Thankfully, I was able to recover all data from it.I had Windows 10 running but with only 8GB RAM new Windows 10 updates made my computer too slow, and I was getting hardware incompatibility reports. I opted to go with Windows 7.I contacted Backblaze Support and followed all their instructions but could not inherit the earlier failed drive setup. It reaches "Inheriting Backup State: Updating Backblaze resources" and stops ...

Do Not Use For Video or Images

Very, very bad when it comes to hosting videos and images. When using this platform we had tons of complaints from users when it came to uploaded video's and images buffering. We finally closed our account today when we noticed we kept getting charged even though we no longer used this platform. They also make you jump through hoops, just to delete your account, and customer service will provide you little to know help in getting it done quickly. Overall I had a bad experience and wouldn't ...

Frustrating, expensive, and kafkaesque

Like so many others, I trusted some early positive reviews of Backblaze--and then, like everyone else, I discovered later that this was a terrible mistake. When I actually needed to restore my data after my laptop was stolen, it was expensive, frustrating, time-consuming, and kafkaesque. They charged hidden fees; their FAQ didn't cover any of the questions I actually had; and their customer service (when they did finally respond) gave me incomplete, misleading, and incorrect information. I ...

Snake oil

They have two products, backup and storage. This review is about the backup product, I know nothing about their storage one but based on this experience I will never use it.TL;DR: even if you decide to go with them, test if you can actually get ALL your files back during either the trial or the refund period! Chances are some of them will be missing or your restore will fail and support won't help you. Best to find this out early while you still have your originals.Backup makes you download ...

macOS users stay far away

Backblaze has excellent marketing and relatively slick software, that leads you to believe your files are being backed up.However, as others have encountered, if you ever find yourself in the unpleasant situation of actually having to use Backblaze to restore lost files, you may find that your backups are incomplete. Moreover, there is a high probability on macOS of irreversibly screwing up your Backblaze backups if you use a combination of local backups alongside it.Backblaze's customer ...

Difficult to use

Difficult to use, multiple errors during restore attempts that all failed. Given that I was unable to use this, the fact that I paid $110 for a two year license is highway robbery.

Invisible until you need it

What do you like best? Backblaze is like a waiter who never interrupts your meal but is always one step away when you need him. I forget I have Backblaze running, but my backups are kept up-to-date, and I've had no problems with my occasional file restores. What do you dislike? I can't think of any cons for this product What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I use Backblaze for offsite backup of the contents of my primary computer.
