Operational, but could be better

We've used this system for several years for our school libraries. We've learned to work around a lot of the glitches, so it functions okay. Communication with the company could be better. We have been waiting quite a while to upgrade to the latest version without much response to our messages about it.

Super nice people -- software is a bit weak

As a new user (having worked in a school library for years), I'm finding Alexandria very cludgy to use -- things are stored in separate silos and I'm constantly having to shift between Patron, Circulation, and Researcher -- and the functions are not well embedded/easy to find. Many icons are not defined and there's no explanatory message when you hover over it. It seems unnecessarily complicated to do simple tasks. On the other hand, when I've had problems or questions (as I did when ...

Good but frustrating at times

Alexandria makes library life easier for sure but it is also frustrating for a couple of reasons. First, I am an advocate of change if it's going to make things better. Since we have switched over to web based Alex, I have found it more cumbersome to use and not just because it's new and I'm still learning the new changes. Mostly it's because there are extra steps now that make things take more time. For example... *I loved the shortcuts that now no longer work. *Getting the picture of our ...

changes in searcher & title lookup

With the "upgrade" many user friendly features were changed: searcher no longer shows all the needed information on a book, so having to switch back-and-forth is tedious. When using the "T" search to look for a title from circulation, if wanting to search more the lookup feature doesn't help. The whole process has to be done again. Very tedious and time consuming.

Helpful staff

Technical support is excellent. The staff is always polite and helpful. As far as the software, the updated version has been difficult to menouver and less efficient than the older version.

Improvement needs improving

Although the latest web based ALEX version looks cleaner and up-dated, a lot of the convenient 'old' features have been eliminated. Example: getting a lot of reports requires a multiple step clicking process before one can view/print the actual report. Also, having to type a teacher's name EXACTLY (case sensitive, punctuation) as it is stored makes a quick report for a teacher an ordeal.

Disappointed

I have been using Alexandria for over 10 years and have never had any real problems with the system until I upgraded last year to the on-line version. I found numerous glitches in the system. The reports were not as easy to run and many of the search features were not as efficient. At the beginning of this school our entire school district converted to the union library system. It has been a disaster. There has been numerous problems and our entire group of librarians wasted valuable time ...

Newer User of Alexandria

As this is the only library software I have used, I don't really have anything to compare it to; however, the few wishes I have are more customization to the reports. Also, it would be helpful to have a spanish version of some of the reports such as overdue letters or notices.
