What is Credit Notes?
What does 'Credit Notes' mean?
A document issued to a customer that reduces or cancels the amount owed on an invoice already sent, used for returns, overcharges, cancelled work, or agreed discounts. Rather than deleting or editing the original invoice, which breaks the audit trail, the credit note offsets it and can be applied against the balance or a future invoice. Accounting systems track the link between the two so receivables and tax figures stay correct.
