Speech in a video is transcribed automatically and rendered as on-screen text, timed to when each word is spoken. Beyond accessibility, captions matter because a large share of social video is watched with the sound off. Editors can usually correct the transcript, restyle the text, and export the captions as a separate subtitle file or burn them into the frame.
