Editor's Summary · Knowledge Base Software
Decide first whether the knowledge base faces customers or staff, because the good tools are not the same. Document360, HelpDocs, KnowledgeOwl and Helpjuice are built for public help centers — SEO-friendly output, search analytics and deflection reporting that shows which articles stop tickets. Guru, Slite, Tettra, Slab and Nuclino are internal-first, and win on how little friction there is to update a page, which is what determines whether staff trust it.
The support suites — Zoho Desk, Help Scout, Freshdesk, Intercom, HubSpot Service Hub, Gorgias — bundle a knowledge base with ticketing. That is the cheaper route if you are buying both, and rarely the better knowledge base if you are not.
MadCap Flare is a different animal entirely: single-source technical authoring for regulated documentation, heavier to run and far stronger on output control.

How to choose Knowledge Base Software
Separate the customer-facing and internal use cases before shortlisting; buying one tool for both usually compromises the side you care about more. If deflection is the goal, insist on failed-search reporting so you can see what customers wanted and did not find. If you already run a support suite, evaluate its built-in knowledge base first — it is free at the margin and often good enough.
