How to choose AI Gateways
Start with who you want billed by your model providers, because that splits this market in two and most other differences follow from it. If you already run Kong, Tyk, APISIX, WSO2 or Gravitee for ordinary APIs, the gateway from that vendor keeps model traffic under policy you already operate. If you want one invoice across many models and no contracts to negotiate, a hosted router does that at the cost of putting a reseller in the path. Check the fee shape before the feature list: a percentage of model spend and a flat monthly tier price very differently once volume grows. Several vendors in this category publish no price at all, and most of those are the networking incumbents.
