Having real life stories to listen to makes them much more interesting and being able to slow the speech down is invaluable. Enjoying relearning French.

Absolutely brilliant - the best language learning method I have found.
I used Yabla for German a few years ago and recently returned having tried various free methods of subtitle language learning e.g. chrome extensions. On my return, I realised that Yabla is a so much better option. The subtitles are absolutely accurate and extremely effective. And I love the new Scribe game (although not available on the mobile app, I don't think) - it is so effective for practising listening, speaking and writing skills all at once.I had got sidetracked for the first two or ...

An Old Language Teacher Approves
Well, I'm still in the honeymoon phase, so my opinion may change. I'm a retired ESL teacher who dabbles in other languages. Though skeptical that computers will ever replace human teachers, I try to check out different online approaches. I love Yabla. Its basic idea is sound - all the commercial media in various languages, created to engage our imaginations, could be a great resource for language learning. It just takes isolating brief segments for intensive study. You allow learners to ...

I think more 90-minute films would be good. I am watching Mutter Arbeit WeiderIt will take me a few days to get through it but it's really good because there is a story that begins and ends not too short and not too long. The problem with TV series and Box sets is that they go on forever and they always have a cliffhanger.

I've been using Yabla for years to study Italian. Got away from it for a couple years because of busy life with kids. I just recently rejoined, and it's like having the classes we all wish we had the time and money for right in the palm of your hand. You can take advantage of several different learning styles, figure out what works best for you and focus on that. And there is no shortage of content. It can also help greatly with listening comprehension. Most of us don't have anyone that we ...

I love it!
I love it. Yabla is exactly what I was looking for, to help me learn Spanish. Everyone keeps telling me "the best way to learn Spanish is to watch TV/movies/Netflix/YouTube in Spanish". However, when I try that, it takes me WAY too much time to find anything that's at my level of learning... and then the subtitles are so far off from what is actually spoken, and I have to sit there and type in the words into a translator, because you can't even copy and paste it from the closed captioning. ...
