Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Best tool for Designer/Developer collaboration

What do you like best? Sketch is the first tool that allows our designers and developers to collaborate nearly seamlessly with one another. The ease with which you can design concepts, lay them out almost on platform and then quickly and easily export those assets creates a development pipeline that is quick, efficient and pixel perfect. Previously we had a solution that cobbled together photoshop with various actions and 3rd party tools like Slicy (great if you are stuck with ...

Sketch is great, when it works.

What do you like best? I like that it's easy to collaborate with everybody on my team with Sketch. The symbols feature is really great, as it allows you to make updates across the board by changing only one element. The ability to have multiple art boards is a really nice feature as well. What do you dislike? I have constant issues with getting the Craft plug-in as well as my text styles to work. It is incredibly frustrating to know that text styles are available and should work, but ...

Absolute must-have for User Interface (UI) designers

What do you like best? Where to start? Sketch had a bit of a rocky start a few years ago, and was largely panned for it's lack of features compared to it's main competitor (Adobe Illustrator but WOW have they really made this application a must have over the last 2 years! Our initial skepticism from using it quickly dissipated and now our entire team, and even other developers in the company, have started to use Sketch as our design teams work more closely with development teams. The ...

The most vital piece of software in my workflow

What do you like best? I love how fast working in Sketch is. In the past, I used Adobe Fireworks for design (website mockups, app design because it combined vector and raster graphics, but Sketch was a huge improvement. I also love the wide variety of plugins available that make my workflow faster. What do you dislike? There are a few small nitpicky things that I wish Sketch would improve. I don't like that borders on text are only added to the middle of the word (no control over ...

A New approach on design software.

What do you like best? With Sketch I am able to see my different viewports (Responsive Web Design side by side and that's great to keep the consistency through the design. I also like that I can create styles for my different elements and typography so I can change it whenever I need and see the change taking place everywhere on my document. The layout feature is also pretty good as It automatically generates a grid for your design without manually placing guides. What do you dislike? ...

What do you like best? As I am not a designer, I do emphasize the use cases from a developers point-of-view. - Ease to use - Super crisp rendering techniques - puts my implementations of websites in browsers to shame - Reasonable price - Loads of great features - Love the CSS-export feature What do you dislike? I don't like the shift towards a time-based service agreement that has just been instated, but nevertheless, the software is worth the money. Also, the updater ...
