Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Sketch is macOS and iPad only—if your team uses Windows or Linux, you'll need a separate tool or browser-based alternative for those users. The color picker has a known lag when sampling from external applications, which matters if you're matching brand palettes frequently. Before committing, verify in a demo that Sketch's component system (symbols) works for ...Read more

Sketch: Vector Interface for UX Designers

What do you like best? What I like best about the Sketch application is that it is so easy to adopt for those of us designers who are familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite. It is a vector-based UX design application and uses similar menus and design elements as Illustrator making it very easy to pick up as a new user. What do you dislike? I didn't dislike anything really. It had a lot of options for different templates from mobile to desktop to laptop to game design, etc. What ...

Easy to use

What do you like best? In Sketch, every shape you create is an item in the Layers List. No more hidden paths. What do you dislike? Sketch can slow down older machines pretty considerably. Even on the fastest Macs, the software struggles to handle files like Adobe programs can. In Sketch’s defence though, this seems to be getting a lot better with every update. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Sketch has taken the design world by ...

Easy to use

What do you like best? I really like that Sketch is easy to learn how to use. Especially if you know how to use programs like Photoshop, it's easy to get the hang of this program because it has a similar design and uses layers, etc. It has a very simple user interface and I really like how there are a lot of widgets that can be added. Also really convenient how it connects to InvisionApp. What do you dislike? While Sketch is very easy to use and to learn, there are still a lot of ...

Best Design Tool

What do you like best? I love the flexibility and the extensibility of sketch, as well as the ability to do wireframes and hi fidelity in the same tool. What do you dislike? I think the hardest part of sketch is the inability to prototype from sketch, or to easily create a prototyping strategy without constantly testing it out in invision. Would love to have invision move into sketch and be able to have it work without leaving the tool at all. Recommendations to others considering ...

Great for wed design

What do you like best? I like that craft and InVision seamlessly combine with Invision. The artboards are well-thought out to include most everything. Symbols has been HUGE. Probably my favorite feature. What do you dislike? The type tool is probably my biggest gripe. The scaling isn't as easy as I'd like it to be (compared to Adobe. Recommendations to others considering the product: If you're familiar with Adobe products, there's a small learning curve but in the end, very easy to ...

Great tool for designing & wireframing

What do you like best? Sketch is a simple yet powerful tool that allows designers to wireframe and design websites and application interfaces quickly and easily. What do you dislike? While Sketch is continuously improving, I still prefer photoshop over sketch for full site designs. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Sketch has allowed our design team to communicate ideas and layouts quickly and efficiently to clients and our development ...

UX designer who loves using Sketch.

What do you like best? I like how simple it is to use and produce digital designs, and there are plug-ins for everything. What do you dislike? I don't like that it's hard to collaborate on this tool. File sharing gets messy because there is no tool to sync changes to designs when you're working together on the same project with other designers. Recommendations to others considering the product: It's a great tool for UX designers! What problems are you solving with the product? What ...

Great for specs

What do you like best? Sketch is great when you need to send specs to a client. Previously, I was using Illustrator and redlining everything, but Sketch works really well with the plugin Zeplin to send everything you need to your clients. Sketch is great for measuring everything precisely - the tool shows you all of the pixels right there. Shortcuts are easy. What do you dislike? There's not a lot to dislike...The only thing I'd say is that it slows me down when I work, because it is ...

This software has drastically changed my workflow for the better.

What do you like best? Sketch is easy to navigate, has amazing plug-in capabilities using programs such as Craft, and is pixel perfect. Always. The symbol tool is the most valuable in my opinion, as you are able to simply pop in and exchange out symbols with one click. It makes changes quick and easy, so you don't feel the pressure of a time crunch if a small change is needed at the last minute. What do you dislike? Exporting can sometimes be a pain. It was a learning curve to figure ...
