Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Sketch is macOS and iPad only—if your team uses Windows or Linux, you'll need a separate tool or browser-based alternative for those users. The color picker has a known lag when sampling from external applications, which matters if you're matching brand palettes frequently. Before committing, verify in a demo that Sketch's component system (symbols) works for ...Read more

Best way to mock-up websites

What do you like best? Sketch is so simple and easy to use to create mockups of websites and other design needs. What do you dislike? Sketch would be better if the exported images were compressed more so they allow a site to be quick speedy What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? The need to quickly mock-up websites without all the bells and whistles of something like photoshop. It’s great I can focus on the ui of the site vs figuring out ...

Easy to get started and learn as you use

What do you like best? I like the simplicity of the program. It makes it easier to get started without feeling overwhelmed with all the features available. What do you dislike? I dont like the draw tools, especially the paths. They are a bit confusing. Also, adding plugins to sketch is not as intuitive as it should be. Recommendations to others considering the product: Definitely a good choice for a beginner as well as an expert What problems are you solving with the product? What ...

Sketch is destroying the competition

What do you like best? It makes laying out multiple pages side-by-side a breeze. It's super fast and the file sizes are very small. It's great for prototyping and laying out mobile apps. It's great for repeating the same task numerous times. What do you dislike? It's not the best for building vector shapes or using photos. I also don't like the way it handles the undo feature (cmd z when in the middle of your next action. I feel it tends to go back two undos. Recommendations to ...

Used to create quick mockup of iOS application

What do you like best? I like the iOS templates. I love that you can export right into Zeplin. What do you dislike? I dislike using the vector because it doesn’t seem intuitive, I always add a dot when I’m just trying to adjust an existing line. I also have not been able to figure out the union feature and seem to use it incorrectly. I wish Sketch had more tools for creating custom shapes or selecting parts of an existing image and copying them. Recommendations to others considering ...

East to Learn Software

What do you like best? I like that it was so intuitive to learn and majority of the features were easy to find. It is really easy to create artboards, designs and symbols so that designs come across as consistent. I also really like that its so easy to export with all of the options visible and sync with a lot of software/plugins such as Craft and Invision. What do you dislike? I don't like that it feels limited in comparison to photoshop and illustrator, it would be nice if it had ...

Sketch Review

What do you like best? I absolutely love the user experience and interface of Sketch. It's so incredibly easy to navigate, drag and drop images, shapes, text into the artboards. I find the ability to link Sketch to Invision for prototyping makes my job so much more efficient. I can add transitions and other animation effects to my prototypes as a preview of what it'd look like. Many developers also prefer to have sketch files on hand when coding. What do you dislike? Creating icons is ...

Ideal for prototyping new design comps

What do you like best? Sketch is great for designing and creating prototypes of a project design for an internal team to review so they understand the functionality and flow. What do you dislike? Sketch isn't great for client presentation. You can't just click through the slides like you can with InVision for instance. It's best used for internal teams; not external clients where you have to present a design. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you ...

No better way to validate your proof of concept.

What do you like best? I'm not an app developer, but when I was working on my idea, it was important to have something to show potential customers and investors. Enter Sketch. with their mockup templates, and with a somewhat fleshed out brand identity, I was able to create my vision of what the app *might* look like. This helped me get some initial traction to hire the development team needed to bring the app to reality. What do you dislike? I really don't like how it only works on ...
