Simplicity vs Maturity

What do you like best? OC has a simple codebase and thus is very easy to customize. However, customization is not based on development best practices. OC codebase is not build with testability in mind. What do you dislike? Customization can only be achieved by code changes. E.g. one cannot switch of the wishlist feature like a module. What do you like best? The complete set of features that had almost everything I needed. What do you dislike? Extremely hard to modify, if not something from the admin page. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Small details were sometimes hard to change and many times needed an actual change in the source code.
