Spotsaas Editor’s POV

CircleCI is highly regarded for its user-friendly interface, real-time project insights, and seamless integration with various build hosts, making it a standout choice for CI operations. The free tier, offering 30,000 credits and the ability to SSH into builds for quick issue resolution, is appreciated by many users. The ability to automate workflows and ...Read more

CircleCI pros and cons

  • Provides a user-friendly interface with unique features like insights for workflows, job branches, and commit history.

  • Free tier includes substantial credits, easy to integrate into projects, and allows SSH to resolve issues directly in the build machine.

  • Offers easy interface for pipeline creation using YAML files, facilitating automation and progress tracking.

  • Excellent documentation and ease of integration with other technologies for users transitioning from DevOps/Sysadmin roles.

  • Audit features are not as robust as other enterprise-grade providers, and some users found the setup to be complex initially.

  • Issues related to Docker layer cache credits running out fast and slow servers have been reported.

CircleCI review

What do you like best? The most helpful part about circleci is automatically running unit tests every time you open a PR. It also tells you exactly where build and unit tests fail. I also like how java jars are deployed automatically so you can run your branch on the servers and makes iteration time faster. What do you dislike? The only thing I dislike is that when looking at build and run tests from github it does not open in a new tab. I also think there could be a better summary ...

Great service

What do you like best? CircleCI is a great service and part of our core platform, as it is easy to configure we can take advantage of a lot of features that we were not using on the previous CI service What do you dislike? The pricing, I think we should have more plans with flexible options. Recommendations to others considering the product: CircleCI is the most complete and easiest to use CI service in the market What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits ...

Easy to use

What do you like best? Being easy to setup is one of its greatest advantages. Also, I liked the idea of opening my dashboard and I can use my Github repositories directly without any further setup. What do you dislike? Nothing so far .. everything is working as what planned but may be a cosmetic changes like: 1. Better dashboard design 2. I don't like how the workflow tab is organized I can't find my branches easily 3. Also, may be we can have more insights charts specific to ...

Seems like a good CI/CD platform from PM perspective

What do you like best? Seems like a good CI/CD platform from PM perspective. We are still trialing but it seems to have a solid feature set. What do you dislike? User interface is a bit on the old side, or maybe command line driven design. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Control of what gets deployed and integrated for our SaaS solution

Nice experience

What do you like best? It is easy to use Documentation is good. What do you dislike? There is no support for outside git repos. We are using codebasehq.com for some of our repositories, and we can not use circileci for them. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We had a jenkins instance. It was old but working. One day, it is hacked. It is always better to use a service rather than maintaining a server.

generally good, but Docker support can be better

What do you like best? Clean experience with everything defined in a file. Everything is based on Docker. What do you dislike? Not the best Docker support: no layer caching. Workflows are not really useful because they don't share Docker images between them, and pushing/pulling them from the registry will consume a lot of time, which grows with the size of the image. The builds are sometimes slow. The new pricing makes it unusable, so we'll have to move to something else, ...

Super Powerful Tool for Continuous Delivery

What do you like best? We can build all our software and test it, everything from services written in Scala and Go to apps for iOS and Android! It's configured using a yaml file so developers can add or modify the build process without administrative access to CircleCI which is huge. What do you dislike? The UI can be a little confusing at first so it takes some getting used to but once you've used it for a few projects it makes sense. It would be nice if it was easier to search for a ...

CircleCI, the Power House that Runs your Workflow

What do you like best? CircleCI offers an interface that's easy to consume and easy to integrate with. Through a simple configuration file, a vast array of jobs can be run. Whether it be unit tests or build processes, all can be configured through a simple file. What do you dislike? CircleCI does not automatically refresh the state of jobs being run which can be an annoyance when jobs run quickly and as a developer I expect live updates. The configuration file doesn't enable our a ...
