Basecamp pros and cons

  • Simple, user-friendly interface that is intuitive even for beginners, making it easy for teams to adopt and use efficiently.

  • Centralizes all project information, including documents, tasks, and communications, enabling seamless collaboration and organization.

  • Strong team collaboration tools, including real-time communication, task assignments, and notifications to keep everyone aligned.

  • Highly effective for remote and hybrid teams, allowing easy management of tasks and communication across distances.

  • Lacks robust customization options for advanced users, particularly in file storage and integrations, which can limit flexibility.

  • Minimalist feature set may lack advanced capabilities like complex reporting or kanban customization that power users might expect.

Good for event-based projects and offsite teams/volunteers

What do you like best? I think basecamp works most effectively for event based projects, which we definitely have. I like that you can assign things to people who don't like logging into basecamp, but they'll still get the emails that they have to do something and can just reply there. What do you dislike? if people don't utilize the software or follow up, it's basically useless. but that's not basecamp's fault : could be a little prettier in the design and UI. maybe a group message ...

Useful but cluttered

What do you like best? An excellent collaboration medium. Good IM features. Has decent checklist features and is good at reminding others of their tasks. What do you dislike? Layout is not user friendly and it is very easy to get caught up in the minutia of planning a task vs doing a task. Recommendations to others considering the product Explore the marketplace of PM software. Basecamp is cheap so that is tempting but you get what you pay for. What business problems are you ...

great message board

What do you like best? its a great tool for creating message boards and sharing ideas , documents and seeing all the conversations between your colleagues What do you dislike? its not really a project management tool , no project tasks or dependencies Recommendations to others considering the product great tool for communication , not so much for actual task management What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? great communication ...

A great basic level software for your business management needs

What do you like best? It is best served as a central repository of information - emails, files, dates, commentary. It allows for remote or contract members to seamlessly ramp up on a project or stay in the know despite all other factors. What do you dislike? It's a little clunky and slow. What it does is fine, but it's not innovative or cutting edge in any way. I wish the mobile app was a little faster and that there were more advanced features, like dedicated time tracking, built in. ...

Great collaboration Program

What do you like best? SO easy to use. It's all in the cloud, so nothing for the users to download and take up space on individual computers. What do you dislike? There's very little I don't like about the program. Recommendations to others considering the product For teams working on a project who are located in multiple locations, this program makes collaboration and implementation MUCH easier. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you ...

It’s useful in tracking project progress, but requires everyone on the team to participate

What do you like best? Easily see what tasks need to be completed What do you dislike? If others don’t update what they’ve completed it can be confusing Recommendations to others considering the product It’s helpful if your whole team uses it and updates it. If you’re given an assignment that multiple people are able to complete, and someone else does it without updating basecamp, then you might also work on it. That can waste time and not be helpful. But that’s less of a basecamp ...

Efficient project management tool

What do you like best? Being able to house all documents relating to a project has really come in handy. Before utilizing Basecamp we'd have numerous emails being shared with multiple attachments and different versions of those documents. It was very easy for team members to loose track of which was the latest version or to find material that had been shared in the past. Basecamp serves as a one stop shop for us now. What do you dislike? There's really nothing I dislike about ...

Excellent Tool For Managing A Wide Range Of Products

What do you like best? I like that my team's projects can be managed in a logical and orderly way. I like that there are apps across the devices. What do you dislike? I would like to be able to edit how you can see the schedule from two months down to a single week, etc. Recommendations to others considering the product Many of the services charge on a per-user basis which makes it cost prohibitive. Basecamp does not operate that way which makes it even more valuable on top of the ...

Great Resource for Teamwork

What do you like best? Ease of use, great opportunity for collaborative efforts. What do you dislike? Frequency of email until I learned about the daily digest option. Recommendations to others considering the product I was forced to jump right in and that seemed an effective way to try it out! :- What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Better communication and options for our team to discuss items on a time frame that is ...

Does Many Things, But None Particularly Well?

What do you like best? Creating, modifying, and completing tasks is all very fast and simple. What do you dislike? There are lots of features that don't seem any better than the software they're attempting to replace. For example, our team still uses Slack for messaging. Also features that don't seem particularly useful (e.g., Applause. Perhaps I haven't given it a fair shot? What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
