Basecamp pros and cons

  • Simple, user-friendly interface that is intuitive even for beginners, making it easy for teams to adopt and use efficiently.

  • Centralizes all project information, including documents, tasks, and communications, enabling seamless collaboration and organization.

  • Strong team collaboration tools, including real-time communication, task assignments, and notifications to keep everyone aligned.

  • Highly effective for remote and hybrid teams, allowing easy management of tasks and communication across distances.

A great way to collaborate and get stuff done!

What do you like best? Using Basecamp makes collaborating easy. We use it to coordinate with our ad agency and it’s a great way to make sure everyone is on the same page with a high level of interaction with commenting, notifications, and the ability to physically check off to-dos. What do you dislike? Basecamp tends to over communicate. I’m not sure if this is a setting you can turn off, but having too many notifications in the app itself and in email can be a little much. What ...

Loving Basecamp at a nonprofit

What do you like best? It helps our small team stay on track when we’re balancing needs from several different departments. What do you dislike? I wish the files worked more like Dropbox—being able to share a public link for a folder and being able to use it like a normal file folder (i.e. being able to “save to” instead of uploading/downloading to use. Recommendations to others considering the product Take time to think about how to best organize your projects and take time to make ...

A flexible tool, but perhaps too flexible?

What do you like best? The flexibility of the platform is something that I find very helpful, specifically because we are a small company and being able to import documents/to-dos from different departments is crucial for us to keep on top of the tasks that don't fall under our specific job role, but that we have responsibility for. As part of a start-up, we use the automatic check in function to say what we've done everyday and to provide feedback which is invaluable in terms of ...

Basecamp used at my marketing agency

What do you like best? The ease of use. We used this software with new clients of our agency, and it was easy to get them to join and learn it if they had not yet used it before. It was easy for them to comment back on work we showed them, and the string of comments is usually easy to look or search through. What do you dislike? As a graphic designer, I'd have to say the design of it isn't great. The user screen could be updated and re-designed to be way cleaner. I've seen so many ...

Excellent Collaboration Tool

What do you like best? I love that Basecamp allows you to upload files, and manage your notifications. You can choose to be alerted to every change made, or just request a daily/weekly recap. What do you dislike? My only negative experience with this is that it can sometimes get messy. Also, if you are dealing with a client who isn't computer savvy, you have to teach them the technology or how to navigate the website. They often prefer to work through email. But once they understand, ...

A little disorganized

What do you like best? There are many features to this site that can be quite helpful What do you dislike? The site feels cluttered by how many things are available to use, and I wish when commenting on documents, the document was included in the email alerts forwarded to members What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We collaborate with many individuals across departments. My supervisor likes the to-do list feature

Perfect for Detailed/Large Projects

What do you like best? Everything in one spot that communicates with everyone on the team (regardless of location. It is so much easier to get forms back from people, share meeting notes, etc. What do you dislike? If you have a lot of documents, files, etc. and when you bring a new team member on mid-project, they have to download those files . . . one at a time. Recommendations to others considering the product Use it as your only tool. Do not try to use other tools in addition. ...

Useful for a variety of companies

What do you like best? Basecamp has allowed our publishing company to organize each project. We've been using it for 5+ years and still honestly have yet to find the perfect way to use it for our industry. There are several ways to attack different organization methods. So with that being said, I could see basecamp being useful for a variety of industries. What do you dislike? Basecamp 3 is what my company currently uses. They often come out with updates and are receptive when users ...
