What is Application Virtualization?

What does 'Application Virtualization' mean?

Individual applications are delivered to users from a central server without being installed on the endpoint, with only the interface streamed to the user's screen. This lets an organisation publish a single app rather than a whole desktop, which is useful for legacy programs, licence-restricted tools, or software that will not run on a user's operating system. Updates are made once on the host and take effect for everyone.
