Spotsaas Editor’s POV

YNAB (You Need A Budget) uses a digital envelope system where you allocate money to specific spending categories before you spend it. This requires upfront discipline—you must categorize every transaction and adjust allocations monthly. If you prefer passive tracking without active budgeting, YNAB will feel restrictive. The app syncs with most US banks and ...Read more

Debt free!

We've been using YNAB for a year, and in that short time we paid off $16,000 in debt and have saved a $6,000 emergency fund. This program has relieved more stress than any massage, facial, bubble bath, video game spree or other common self-care ritual. There are not enough words to describe how grateful I am for YNAB.

Great Tool

I'm fairly new to YNAB. I transferred over from Mvelopes. Have loved all of it. Thanks!

The best budgeting app

The best budgeting app! Forces you to really think about every dollar and how it will be used. Forces you to plan for future expenses and not spend money just because you have it. Also got me out of the credit card float which is amazing!

Easy to use, even if you have seperate bank accounts

I used Mint for years but after seeing several recommendations for YNAB on other sites, I decided to give it a try. I purchased a 1-year subscription in November 2022 and haven't looked back. My husband and I maintain separate accounts and YNAB makes it easy for us to link our accounts and maintain a joint budget. The overall concept is a little different than other budgeting programs in that you "fund" your spending in advance by allocating your incoming funds to the categories you create. ...

Provides clarity & unity in managing our finances

We have been using YNAB for just over a year and love the clarity and unity this has given us in managing our finances together. We are never lost wondering where we're at or where we're heading.

Never too late to start a budget

I was over 60 years old and never really worked with a budget before. My son introduced me to YNAB and I love it! I actually feel like I am finally in control of my finances. I wanted to have a budget in place when I retired, and YNAB has helped me so much. Why did I wait so long to start this? It is easy to use and I am so happy with YNAB! Thank you!!

YNAB has been a great resource

YNAB has been a great resource. Visually seeing where I need to prioritize my funds has helped me to get out of credit card debt and save an emergency fund. I stopped spending future money and focused on what I actually had in my account. I had my own tracking sheet prior to YNAB, but I kept forgetting bills and didn’t track all spending, so I kept getting “surprise” bills/charges, that would require me to dip into my savings. After being with YNAB for over a year, none of those things ...
