Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Volusion, an e-commerce platform with a long-standing presence in the market, offers a solid entry point for small and medium-sized businesses aiming to establish an online store. Its user-friendly interface and simple setup process make it an attractive solution for entrepreneurs with limited technical expertise. Volusion also provides a suite of features, ...Read more

Volusion pros and cons

  • Simple and beginner-friendly e-commerce platform with easy setup, ideal for small businesses and non-technical users.

  • Offers customizable templates to quickly create aesthetically pleasing websites.

  • Functions such as inventory management, order processing, and real-time payment collection streamline online store operations.

  • Reliable customer support with helpful representatives addressing various technical issues (although limited by pricing tier).

  • Expensive pricing plans and hidden charges (e.g., bandwidth overages, SSL certificates, premium themes) make it less affordable, especially for small businesses and startups.

  • Outdated codebase, limited features, and lack of scalability for larger or highly competitive businesses.

For straight forward store applications …

For straight forward store applications without specialized development requirements, I always look to Volusion first for my clients. Volusion Tech support always follows through.

your representatives are very cordial

your representatives are very cordial my main complaint is that they're under-educated and lack the ability to provide enough information past basic set up mode - and this has been a complaint of mine for a whilethey don't seem to know much about themes, for example, other than what's already available in the knowledge base and don't provide a contact who may know more

Have used Volusion for many years now

Have used Volusion for many years now. It doesn't feel very leading edge, but it's stable. Have researched other hosts but frankly, none of them sound any better. I can customize just about anything in regards to Volusion to make my site the way I want it (assuming I have the coding skills to make those changes). Their weakness has always been support and that's still true. I hate bandwidth fees when my site is so light weight. Seems like 404 errors from people who are trying to access ...

Follow up is not the best

The customer service reps are very polite, but I changed my plan three months in a row and it was not done until the third time. I paid twice my monthly charge for two months.

After investing considerable time …

After investing considerable time designing a Volusion site, and porting all our products from our existing site, we discovered that Volusion does not support 301 redirects for all pages, as advertised, and as we were assured verbally that they would. Only non-dynamic pages can be redirected properly. (It would be very unusual for an existing website of any complexity to list their products on non-dynamic pages, so I can't believe we're the first ecommerce site to have run into this ...

So much to cover on one small survey

So much to cover on one small survey. Very happy overall with Volusion, especially love the new Paypal software update. Wait time for live chat can be a bit longer than we like, but it is bearable. Looking forward to 2.0 and some exciting upgrade possibilities.

Good, but slow to change

Most of the tech people are very good, but when they run into something unfixable, they tell me to put in a suggestion for a change. Done that, and months later, nothing has changed. For example, the smartphone app... many problems, two years now, no changes.

Manages few stores at a single location

PROS & CONS What are the best aspects of this product? Our idea was to set up few different stores in one location, ideally being able to prevent interaction between them even when sales taxation and shipping rules seem to coincide. No platform was able to guarantee this 100%, and we finally discovered it in a tool that wasn't even close to the top of our list or the threshold of what we were willing to pay to satisfy this requirement. That's why I think Volusion is awesome, even if I ...

Surprising!

What do you like best? How responsive their support team is, especially when you first sign up. What do you dislike? For me personally its not for beginners, to complex Recommendations to others considering the product Be sure to go through the demo with support as they will help you in creating yours, especially if youve never done this before it could come in handy! What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Creating my own ...
