Spotsaas Editor’s POV

SketchUp's main strength is its learning curve—most users move from basic to productive within days, not weeks. The 3D-to-2D conversion works reliably for architectural drawings and permit sets. The component library is extensive, which speeds up common tasks like adding doors, windows, and furniture. However, verify in a demo that the software handles your ...Read more

SketchUp Review

What do you like best? I love the large catalog of presets, images, and plug-ins that are available! It is easy to use, and the personal liscense is free, so anyone can get it and learn. What do you dislike? Lack of detail, but I really would use another program for that. The quality gets my point across easily enough. There is a learning curve, so if you know your way around GUI for design software, or have knowledge of your 3-D surroundings, you will catch on quick. Recommendations to ...

Build 3D models like a boss. Easiest way to impress your employer and friends!

What do you like best? I have been using SketchUp for almost a decade now. It came into use on many occasions both for personal and professional use. I like the fact that it is easy to learn and that there is a huge community of users and youtube videos to help out whenever you get stuck. You don't need a monster computer to run this program either. It will work with any computer. The 3D model warehouse is very handy too! The best part of it all though, is that you get the most of ...

a great tool for the architect

What do you like best? Sketchup - a very simple program for 3D modeling, even children can understand it. However, it has a depth - if you want in this program, you can do serious projects. I like the high accuracy of modeling, a large number of files to be imported. AutoCAD files are imported, even better than the 3DS Max! You can also visualize your projects and through third-party plug-ins, such as Vray and achieve almost 3ds max rendering quality. What do you dislike? Only downside ...

Great Architectural Software

What do you like best? SketchUp is fun and easy to use, great for beginners and experts alike. You can create amazing drawings and 3D sculptures with the only limit being your imagination. What do you dislike? It would be great to have more customization added to SketchUp, I would love to be able to add custom icons and switch my toolbars to how I would like them to be exactly. Recommendations to others considering the product Would recommend eventually getting my a 3D mouse to use with ...

The simpliest 3D software

What do you like best? I like that it's simple yet effective, good enough to most modelling I need. What do you dislike? Sometimes it's simplicity is disadvantage - it's hard to get full control over elements with this interface. Recommendations to others considering the product If you don't need very specialized modelling and rendering software SketchUp would be great. It's very simple and intuitive and you can achieve great effects. What business problems are you solving with the ...

Fast, accurate and with a lot of posibilities

What do you like best? The interaction with AutoCAD and 3ds Max. I always start modeling in sketchup and then jump to 3ds max. The way you can do the sections and export then a 2d drawing to autocad. What do you dislike? Is not accurate in product modeling such as furniture pieces and double curvature objects, For this I prefer 3ds max or solid works Recommendations to others considering the product If you dont want to get into Revit and want to build architectural buildings fast, you ...

Great 3D modeling for Architecture

What do you like best? Intuitive 3D modeling for rectilinear Architecture and product design models. Amazing community, consistent updates, powerful plugins, intuitive navigation and manipulation. What do you dislike? Support for more powerful modeling functions would be nice. Complex curves and sweeps/extrusions would make the program more powerful. Parametric design tools like Grasshopper for Rhino would be an amazing addition, or at least smarter geometry like editing the profile of an ...

SKETCHUP

What do you like best? Easy drag and drop features. Large number of pre-designed models, and scenes available through the online community. The 3D features enable zooming into the specific aspects of the model or the scenes and customize it according to your imagination or specifications for the project. The look around, walking features and saving the frames at specific animation frames makes 2D cartoon project very easy. Lighting (ambient according to the time of the day and adding ...

Great 3Dmodeling Program

What do you like best? Easy to model, apply textures, great library of components already built by many suppliers and users, reasonably priced, and quickly visualize spaces in 3D. Even without using more sophisticated programs you can help communicate a design to clients much better than more traditional 2D drawings. What do you dislike? Limitations on certain tyes of modeling- doesn't handle curve geometry as well as some programs. Models supplied by others aren't always created in the ...
