SketchUp Reviews & Ratings
Spotsaas Editor’s POV
SketchUp's main strength is its learning curve—most users move from basic to productive within days, not weeks. The 3D-to-2D conversion works reliably for architectural drawings and permit sets. The component library is extensive, which speeds up common tasks like adding doors, windows, and furniture. However, verify in a demo that the software handles your ...Read more

Low barrier of entry, hit useful ceiling quickly
What do you like best? SketchUp is one of the first 3D modeling software packages that architects starting out learn to use- and for good reason. It's easy to pick up, linked to a useful database of community-built models, and importantly, free for the basic package. What do you dislike? Its modeling capabilities run out very quickly once you get into more complex geometry, particularly when dealing with curves and smooth surfaces. All surfaces are faceted, and curves are not true curves ...

great for quick sketchs in 3D
What do you like best? the simplicity of it . just like the name of it, we use it to quickly make 3D sketches of ideas and simple ways of apply material. What do you dislike? its only used for a sketch. whatever we build in SketchUp is not translated directly and must be drawn again in AutoCAD Recommendations to others considering the product it is a great program to use to do quick sketches. I don't think that the program is also very easy to learn/ teach. The only downfall is that ...

I have worked with adobe sketchup for years and have found much value in the product
What do you like best? I love the quick sketch ability, and ability to do those sketches in 3D easily for clients. What do you dislike? I dislike the pro version cost, and limitations there are to the free version. Would love to be able to pull in CAD drawings to the free version. Recommendations to others considering the product Definitely try the pro version to see if those features will be more helpful for you, and weigh out the options when deciding if you want to just keep the free ...

Fantastic software for CAD working
What do you like best? Very full featured software. There is a "online demo" that is practically a full version that most anyone can use for personal projects. Basic CAD, and architectural drawing is not that rare, but SketchUP can also be used for wood workers! It's this last use where I first learned about it. It's just wonderful to be able to bring a piece together prior to cutting anything. What do you dislike? The personal "demo" used to be available to download and run without an ...

A simplified 3D experience in a intuitive platform
What do you like best? Not only this software is at a very low cost compared to most 3D softwares, it is the most fun and easy one. It has fast rendering performances for simple and even complex designs. Once you get the hang of it (a basic 3D knowledge is required you can push it to the limits. I love the warehouse for sharing and getting models from all over the world by newbies and professionals. What do you dislike? In the free 2017 version, the warehouse is gone. If you want to keep ...

User-Friendly, Fun To Use & Versatile
What do you like best? I've been using SketchUp everyday in my line of work for over three years now. It is one of the easiest CAD programs I've used/learned as well as one with some of the best support and communities I've participated in. There are tons of models in the 3D warehouse to learn from or integrate into your own creations. It's for more than just architectural and interior design; I've even used it for animations, pattern making and film! More importantly, I'm still able to ...

So fun to use (once you get past the learning curve)
What do you like best? Once you get the hang of it, SketchUp is so fun for drawing just about any kind of 3D object you can imagine. I love using it to draw rooms or houses for the purpose of interior design. Their 3D object library is also a huge help, saving time from having to draw all kinds of furniture, appliances, doors, wall decor, etc! What do you dislike? Doesn't play well with others - importing other file types it "claims" to be compatible with doesn't always work or save time. ...

great for quick presentations
What do you like best? faster to use than rhino, easier to use and basic features that allow you to quickly render or project your design into a 3-d model. The best part is that it's completely free, so no need to pay expensive fees for a 3-d modeling program unless you want that professional look and extra features that come with rhino, revitt, etc. but for people using programs paid out of their own pocket, this is one less fee we have to worry about, which helps especially considering ...

Beginner friendly!
What do you like best? I love all the tutorials and free community resources SkethcUp provides. It made learning the interface very easy for my students. What do you dislike? Exporting to other platforms can be tricky for newbies. Sometimes the x,y,z, coordinate systems did not match the intended platforms import settings Recommendations to others considering the product YouTube has it all, to learn and do anything you want with Sketchup. What business problems are you solving with the ...
