Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Quicken's core strength is tax-focused personal finance tracking, particularly for self-employed users and small business owners managing 1099 income. Before shortlisting, verify that the software handles your specific tax situation—it excels at income categorization and deduction tracking but has limitations in multi-entity accounting and payroll processing. ...Read more

I have been using Quicken since 1991

I have been using Quicken since 1991. I depend on it for managing our finances. The core functionality is great. My only complaint is that it takes so long to fix bugs. For example, in September 2024 Quicken had still has not been updated to allow importing the 2023 TurboTax file. Also, Quicken should add a "Forecast" report comprised of a number of months of actual expenses plus the budgeted amounts for the remaining months.

I've used Quicken for many years and like its ability to record and track my expenses and savings. One change I would like to see. When I reconcile my accounts it defaults to the date used the previous month. I would like an option to set the default to the last calendar date of the month.

Product has been more stable and consistently improved since bought from Intuit. I have been a user since 1991. Five years ago I switched my computer universe from Windows to Mac. I ran Quicken in a Windows virtual disk on a Mac. Finally this year I felt that the Mac version was sophisticated enough to switch to and switching over was seamless.
