The advanced features can make it tricky to learn since the dialogues provide you with so many options. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Basic mapping needs

Amazing open source software, with plenty of capabilities.

What do you like best? The best thing about QGis is the fact that it is an Open Source GI software, that can tackle down most spatial challenges with ease and high speed. QGis offers a very wide set of tools that someone would need for spatial data management and analysis, as well as very good visualisation techniques. Most of these functions run faster than any other GI software (excluding the ones that have no/low UI, e.g. PostGIS). The visualization teqchniques are very handy and ...

Very intuitive and essential tool

What do you like best? The most useful aspect of QGIS for my needs is the ability to overlay numerous layers and assess densities of various species groups in an intuitive and straightforward way What do you dislike? The newer versions/ updates do not support some plugins such as OpenLayers, this can be a great barrier when updating projects Recommendations to others considering the product: An intuitive and very useful basic mapping tool What problems are you solving with the ...

QGIS and Mapping Plant Collections

What do you like best? It's opensource and not over-complicated What do you dislike? To be honest, not much! It can be annoying learning the layout in software updates, but it's quite easy to pick up after a bit of practise! Recommendations to others considering the product: A great product, although like most GIS things it's always helpful to do a course first, sometimes the tutorials online or on you tube can get a tad confusing. What problems are you solving with the product? ...

Makes GIS accessible to all

What do you like best? It's free and relatively easy to learn how to use. What do you dislike? Inability to import ESRI layer packages requires continued reliance on ESRI software to extract shapefiles for use within QGIS. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We have been able to deploy QGIS to non-GIS specialists so that they can quickly interpret large geospatial datasets on their own desktops. This has greatly aided their ...

Easy to understand and convert various sources of data

What do you like best? Easy and effective data conversion and visualization is easy to manipulate. What do you dislike? I wish the program uploaded data a wee bit faster without having to shut off the visualization preview. Recommendations to others considering the product: Try other forums first to realize the full potential of the conversion capabilities that QGIS allows you. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I have found ...

Good mapping software to know how to use!

What do you like best? It's fairly easy to use and the layout is very clean. What do you dislike? Sometimes the software crashes and you lose your work - would be nice to have an autosave function (or to fix the glitch that causes the crashes..) What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Using QGIS to map various global health issues, particularly related to water and sanitation. QGIS is great, although often the data I'm looking for doesn't ...

QGIS is comparable to ArcGIS without the cost.

What do you like best? QGIS is a great alternative to similar license-based programs on the market today. It's integration with MSSQL, PostGIS, as well as ArcGIS platforms have made it an invaluable tool for me. It doesn't hurt that I'm able to take my work home with me and use it on my macbook, either. It had become one of my go-to GIS programs, from generating simplistic mapping data, to analyzing spatial patterns in transportation studies. I have the found the learning curve for QGIS ...

Good for beginner

What do you like best? i was very new to QGIS but I picked it up very quickly. directions and help were easily accessible . I also googled information if needed. What do you dislike? im not super familiar with the program , but I think with more time the confusion of just learning it would have disappeared. overall good product. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I don't have any. I was using QGIS for school not business.

Simple to use, with GREAT support from the community of users!

What do you like best? First off, I'll start by saying I am not by any means a GIS expert, I specialize in engineering not GIS. I do have to work with vector and raster data on occasion and QGIS has been able to fill the void as a complete replacement to ArcGIS (for me anyway). I was able to self teach myself as required through the large user groups available with this product. For free, it can't be beat! What do you dislike? There isn't too much that dislike about the program, again ...
