PerfectIt pros and cons

  • Saves significant time by identifying and correcting inconsistencies that are otherwise hard to catch manually, enhancing proofreading efficiency.

  • Customizable style sheets and integration with recognized style guides like the Chicago Manual of Style add precision and adaptability to varying requirements.

  • Excellent at checking consistency in grammar, punctuation, abbreviations, hyphenation, and capitalization across long and complex documents.

  • Works seamlessly within MS Word, making it accessible and easy to use for both newcomers and seasoned professionals.

  • Limited automation – always requires manual approval for flagged errors, making it less intuitive for users seeking fully automated corrections.

  • The abundance of features and options can be overwhelming for beginners or non-technical users without clear guidance or tutorials.

"Excellent checking resource for editors and proofreaders"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PefectIt gives me peace of mind for all the copyediting and proofreading projects I work on. By using PerfectIt as a final checking tool, I can feel confident that all my manual edits will be consistent and that any grammatical errors or incorrectly spelled words I may have missed will be picked up.

"PerfectIt is indispensable to me in my work as an academic proofreader."

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt is easy to learn and use and helps to ensure consistency throughout lengthy documents - particularly useful when working with US English, which is less familiar to me.

"A fantastic consistency checker for editors and writers"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? I have been using PerfectIt for several years and cannot now imagine copy-editing without it. It's a hugely helpful tool to run at the beginning of a project to highlight issues that need attention during the main edit, and I always run it again at the end to catch anything I may have missed. I greatly appreciate the fact that I can customise style sheets for different clients so that I can be sure I'm following the right style guide for each, whatever ...

"Loving PerfectIt"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt helps me to edit with thoroughness and consistency, by prompting me to check/confirm a huge range of possible errors. It is fully customizable, so I can check texts in UK or US English and create bespoke style sheets for individual projects. I can choose the range of checks it carries out and I am always fully in control of what is changed, or not changed, during PerfectIt's run. It is a terrific tool for a professional editor like me.

"Great tool for a Solo Practitioner"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? As a solo practitioner, I use PerfectIt! for editing and double-checking all my legal filings and correspondence. It is a great double check to cut down on legalese and reassure that my writing is to the current recommended legal style.

"Excellent tool for all copy-editors and proofreaders"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? Before I heard of it I had to try to use Word macros to clean up the texts I work on and found them tricky and time-consuming. PerfectIt does all the basic checks I need and can be customised for each client or style. I haven't even dipped more than a toe into what it can do, as there is so much!

"Must-have backstop for professional editing"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? I've worked with some of the best sub-editors in the business, and they're obsessive about consistency and about catching little mistakes. I'm good. But PerfectIt moves me closer to the standard of the very best: it catches precisely the kind of mistakes that most human sub-editors are most likely to miss.

"The best investment for editors and writers"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt allows me to create and adapt style sheets to ensure my file follows the chosen style guide. It has a number of checks for proper use of acronyms, which come up a lot in my editing. I also use it for fiction. Because it analyzes the manuscript you are working on, it can tell you if names and terms, even made-up names, are treated consistently. I have used PerfectIt for five years and it has been a reliable checker that makes me look like an ...
