PerfectIt pros and cons

  • Saves significant time by identifying and correcting inconsistencies that are otherwise hard to catch manually, enhancing proofreading efficiency.

  • Customizable style sheets and integration with recognized style guides like the Chicago Manual of Style add precision and adaptability to varying requirements.

  • Excellent at checking consistency in grammar, punctuation, abbreviations, hyphenation, and capitalization across long and complex documents.

  • Works seamlessly within MS Word, making it accessible and easy to use for both newcomers and seasoned professionals.

  • Limited automation – always requires manual approval for flagged errors, making it less intuitive for users seeking fully automated corrections.

  • The abundance of features and options can be overwhelming for beginners or non-technical users without clear guidance or tutorials.

"Don't regret not running a final check for a perfect document."

What do you like best about PerfectIt? IMO, the most helpful feature of PerfectIt is the thoroughness with which it double-checks multiple formatting and writing styles at once allowing you to consider which option to choose. As a technical writer/editor, it is impossible to compare everything and ensure one style was used while the remainder of the document differed. This software does that for you. It is preferable to run the checks within the file itself rather than uploading everything ...

"An amazing tool... if only it fully supported Mac users!"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt is a spectacular tool for editors. It saves incalculable hours and helps ensure consistency. The CMOS integration is a marvelous bonus. I don't know of any other tool that comes close to PerfectIt's value.

"An essential tool for my editing business"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? (I'm a Dutch editor, using PerfectIt on Dutch manuscripts.) PerfectIt helps me to ensure consistency in the spelling, abbreviations and lists and nicely tidies up things like double spaces. The customizable stylesheets make sure I stick to the preferred spelling of various clients and pick up common errors. This saves me a lot of brainpower.

"PerfectIt is vital for my business"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? I have been using PerfectIt for many years now. I have customized style sheets set up for each editing client, which makes it easy to check against their house editorial style. I typically run it before I start editing a document and at the very end. I'm human, so I don't always see little inconsistencies, so PerfectIt provides the peace of mind that I've caught everything. One of my favorite things is that it checks that all abbreviations have been ...

"Essential for big projects"

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt really takes a lot of the mental load off of the editing process. I'm always amazed at what it finds in a long document even after I have gone through it painstakingly. The software really pulls its weight in finding minor inconsistencies that might not make or break a text but that always improve quality overall.

"PerfectIt is an extremely valuable and adaptable tool - I couldn't do without it."

What do you like best about PerfectIt? PerfectIt is my favourite tool for copyediting or proofreading in Word. I use it at the start of every job, whether it's a short document or longer project. In just a few minutes, it takes care of many repetitive and normally time-consuming tasks such as establishing consistency of spelling and hyphenation and checking abbreviations, giving me a rapid overview of some of the potential issues in the document before I start reading it in detail. After ...
