Hyperion Essbase for Financial Analysis
What do you like best? Once you are comfortable using Hyperion Essbase, it is an extremely simple and useful tool to use to obtain needed data. I like that you are able to suppress items such as missing rows or rows with no data present. You can tailor a spreadsheet to easily see only the data you need. What do you dislike? Depending on the size of the data set, Essbase often takes a considerable amount of time to run. Recommendations to others considering the product: It is a ...

Power User of Essbase Excel Add-In Tool
What do you like best? Essbase is a very useful tool in financial reporting. I use it every period to create 4 different company-wide reporting decks on channel, customer and product performance. Essbase is a multi-dimensional database, while not as easy to use as a relational database it is very simple to pull many granular intersections of data. What do you dislike? The time required to update the database at the end of every period is longer than I would like. I know there are ...

Essbase Review
What do you like best? Essbase allows users to easily query a selected dataset from a very large database. The entire interface is built as an add-on to Excel, which requires very little learning curve for someone that doesn’t know any SQL. Essbase also provides users a list of helpful shortcuts that speed up the data retrieval process. What do you dislike? The Essbase Excel add-on is optimized for Office 2003, which is over 10 years old. When my company upgraded its Office Suites ...

Useful for what it does but buggy and small in scale
What do you like best? The Essbase database is very powerful and you can easily retrieve the data on an Excel interface. What do you dislike? The interface is prone to bugs and you can easily corrupt your spreadsheets when you try to retrieve a large amount of data. Also the required maintenance level is high and you often experience outages. Moreover, for data loads, you don't see your loaded data right away, but instead you have to wait overnight before you can see your loaded data. ...
