OpenStack requires hands-on infrastructure expertise to deploy and operate. You'll need staff comfortable with Linux administration, networking, and virtualization concepts—this isn't a managed service where the vendor handles complexity. The learning curve is steep for teams without prior experience in private cloud infrastructure. Before shortlisting, verify ...Read more

"Leading OpenSource IaaS platform"

What do you like best about OpenStack? What I value the most at OpenStack is the OpenSource community support that comes up in many ways. Firstly, it easy to find an OpenStack installation designated for platform of your choice (we used RDO for a RedHat installation). Secondly, there is a thriving discussion list were you can easily find help about almost everything. Lastly, there is a wide variety of plugins, thrid part projects that may potentially help meeting your business goals. For ...

"Very useful for starting up cloud instances to test and replicate environments/ unix boxes"

What do you like best about OpenStack? We deployed on our own server. Very easy to monitor and apply security and limit pool of users. What do you dislike about OpenStack? Nothing. I prefer it to a lot of other services. What problems is OpenStack solving and how is that benefiting you? We were trying to keep down costs, as well as be able to make deployments and testing consistent and easier to automate.

"A great alternative to the public cloud or more expensive on-prem solutions"

What do you like best about OpenStack? Once it's running and configured correctly it's pretty much bullet proof. What do you dislike about OpenStack? It can be difficult to setup without using a Linux distro that already has it built in. Recommendations to others considering OpenStack: It is a good solution that may meet your needs. What problems is OpenStack solving and how is that benefiting you? Reducing server footprint without migrating to the public cloud.

"Very interesting, but could be better"

What do you like best about OpenStack? The fact that it uses readily-available low-level tools, it makes easier to work with it What do you dislike about OpenStack? Setup is very painful, and if you don't need all the features it's hard to trim down the documentation to find your way through it based on your needs. Recommendations to others considering OpenStack: Be sure you understand the cost-benefit tradeoffs, as it's not that easy to setup and it requires a lot of time for maintenance. ...

"Using OpenStack"

It is also wide spread so you can use it at hundreds of companies from small shops to online hosting to media companies.Using OpenOpenStack as a platform What do you dislike about OpenStack?
