Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Loom has completely transformed the way I communicate with my team and clients. Instead of scheduling back-to-back meetings, I can now record concise, engaging video messages that my colleagues can watch on their own time. The ability to share my screen while adding narration and visual cues has been a game changer for clarity and productivity. I particularly ...Read more

Loom pros and cons

  • Loom is widely appreciated for its user-friendly interface that allows professionals to quickly record and share videos without technical barriers. Its Chrome extension, desktop, and mobile apps make screen and camera recording accessible from any device.

  • By enabling asynchronous video messaging, Loom helps organizations reduce the need for lengthy meetings, streamlining communication and boosting productivity across remote and hybrid teams.

  • Users benefit from Loom’s intuitive editor, which allows trimming, stitching, and adding visual elements like arrows, text, and overlays, resulting in more polished and engaging content.

  • The platform enhances engagement with built-in features such as emojis, comments, transcripts, and closed captions in over 50 languages, making global collaboration easier.

  • Since Loom is designed primarily for asynchronous communication, it lacks robust real-time collaboration features compared to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • Free accounts often face restrictions on video length, storage, and advanced features, which may require teams to upgrade for more comprehensive use.

"Value beyond the surface-level benefits"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom makes it dead simple to record quick videos to share with your team. Video can be far superior communication medium in many contexts, and Loom removes the friction and overhead that would normally prevent users from trying to create a recording. What do you dislike about Loom? For my use cases, there isn't a lot to dislike about Loom. If had to nitpick: * Sometimes teammates' demos aren't in a high enough resolution (particularly when the screen ...

What do you dislike about Loom? I have trouble sometimes with the browser plugin--it gets glitchy. It's best to use the desktop app. What problems is Loom solving and how is that benefiting you? Showing work with a voiceover and getting in-context feedback. With remote work--this tool is essential in communication ...

"Nervewracking at first but worth it!"

What do you like best about Loom? Being able to share work in an async way and have direct comments is extremely beneficial. Allows to socialize across time zones and functions in a way that's convenient for everyone. What do you dislike about Loom? Having omni channel comments can be difficult - I get comments across Notion, Figma, Loom, etc. If there was a way to consolidate comments that would be fantastic. The new feature to allow video editing on Looms is also a huge value add. What ...

"Loom is essential for customer facing roles"

What do you like best about Loom? Very easy to use - I can select the plug in on any screen and record my screen to show instructions/step by step, with a voice-over to describe what is happening. Really great for customer facing roles in tech, where you need to show how to complete a task in the software, much more helpful than written instructions. What do you dislike about Loom? Adding a password to a video is a bit annoying - there's a lot of steps to add the password, should be just ...

Great underestimated feature is the notification when users view your video! What do you dislike about Loom? "Little idea, big impact, bigger potential"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom has nailed making screen capturing and sharing frictionless. As a product designer, I can now explain ideas and demos quickly to my coworkers with almost no overhead compared with tools like Quicktime. What do you dislike about Loom? I believe there are things that can be done to make Loom even better. If I could send a link to a specific spot or highlight of a video, it would make it faster for my coworkers to get to the point of my video, also if ...
