Spotsaas Editor’s POV

Loom has completely transformed the way I communicate with my team and clients. Instead of scheduling back-to-back meetings, I can now record concise, engaging video messages that my colleagues can watch on their own time. The ability to share my screen while adding narration and visual cues has been a game changer for clarity and productivity. I particularly ...Read more

Loom pros and cons

  • Loom is widely appreciated for its user-friendly interface that allows professionals to quickly record and share videos without technical barriers. Its Chrome extension, desktop, and mobile apps make screen and camera recording accessible from any device.

  • By enabling asynchronous video messaging, Loom helps organizations reduce the need for lengthy meetings, streamlining communication and boosting productivity across remote and hybrid teams.

  • Users benefit from Loom’s intuitive editor, which allows trimming, stitching, and adding visual elements like arrows, text, and overlays, resulting in more polished and engaging content.

  • The platform enhances engagement with built-in features such as emojis, comments, transcripts, and closed captions in over 50 languages, making global collaboration easier.

  • Since Loom is designed primarily for asynchronous communication, it lacks robust real-time collaboration features compared to platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

  • Free accounts often face restrictions on video length, storage, and advanced features, which may require teams to upgrade for more comprehensive use.

"Great for quick recordings, interface is a tad awkward"

What do you like best about Loom? It's easy to pop open a loom and share my screen for a quick video and much faster than agonizing over a long wordy email. Love that I can turn off my camera when I am tired of being on view. It's a pretty straight-forward tool so easy to get started and go, What do you dislike about Loom? Controls are a bit awkward to start and stop recording, especially on a wide monitor. Editing functionality seems limited so I hate having to do multiple takes to get it ...

"A vital tool in an asynchronous environment!"

What do you like best about Loom? I find Loom an excellent tool for two primary purposes. The first is for recording presentations that are not important enough to colocate everyone in the same "room". When information should be consumed but doesn't need to be synchronous it is a great option. The second is allowing for the creation of content such as explainer videos which can be recorded in Loom and shared. What do you dislike about Loom? It is still a new product so it is missing some ...

"Great for Software Engineer Review Process and Demos"

What do you like best about Loom? I love that Loom has a feature that is integrated with GitHub. I am a software engineer and it is easy for me to record a Loom to show other engineers the feature I worked on or the bug that I fixed. It is a lot easier than taking screenshots or recording a video and then uploading it. I also use it for company-wide demos when we are showing new features to the company. It's easy for me to record and send someone a link to view it. What do you dislike about ...

"Helpful tool between email and Slack"

What do you like best about Loom? The ability for myself and others to leave comments at points throughout the video, the ability to screen share, and the ability to see when a video has been viewed by other people. What do you dislike about Loom? I sometimes run into errors when trying to give my computer access to my headphones and share my screen. Loom provides instructions on how to do it, but sometimes the instructions don't align with what I see. It might be user error, but a tad ...

"Screen sharing/recording tool that integrates very well"

What do you like best about Loom? Loom is something I use everyday to visually explain my product to clients who may not be technically inclined. The Chrome extension is seamless in my workflow, and the added features of the desktop app are very popular on my team for client outreach. What do you dislike about Loom? This is very rare, but sometimes the recording feature on the Chrome doesn't work and takes me to a blank screen. This may be an update issue on my end, or conflicting ...

"Loom has given us so much time back!"

What do you like best about Loom? We are able to replace meeting time with videos that help us communicate asynchronously. We also share Loom videos with customers to help resolve their problems and show them exactly how to resolve their own issues. It has helped us tremendously in customer service. What do you dislike about Loom? There are times that Loom does not keep me logged in and I have to spend time re-logging in or redownloading the app. But that is something that can be resolved ...
